Hello,
I just got prescribed trazadone for sleep.  Does anyone have experience with it? I'm going to try it tonight for the first time.  My doc told me to start at 100mg to see how I feel in the am.  Any suggestions for me about this?

Thanks everyone
I have and it did not work for me I have known some that it does work for but it is really an anti depressant but it won't hurt to try it will give you wild dreams though. Smile

Really? My doc gave it to me for sleep.. I'm going to have to look into this more. That was the main reason i even went to see him lol. Thanks DcMcb for the tip.
Trazodone gave me seizures, I would stay away. It also did not help with sleep for me

Most docs will give this out, as its not a narcotic or a benzo
It makes me feel groggy in the am as well. Even when I cut the dose in half. I'm going to talk to the doc about that and see what he suggests.. Maybe a new med all together

It's non-narcotic (it's an old antidepressant that they no longer use for that purpose) meaning no chance for addiction. It used to give me the munchies Smile

Not sure if I buy this. . . I've never, ever heard of this problem. Maybe it was the other drugs in your system or a withdrawal you were going through? I and many other people I know have taken Trazodone successfully for years. It works wonderfully for sleep.

I think I personally just had a bad experience with the medication. It was prescribed to me by my PCP but its effects did not agree with me. But I am probably the anomaly.
I had hit or miss experiences with this med. It would either knock me out and I would be asleep in seconds, but hungover/headache in the morning. Or it would not work for me and I would be up all night. also, some of the side effects of tricyclic meds did not work for me, and others I have talked to had a similar experience. Hopefully you don't have side effect issues too bad like a few of us had. How is the traz working out for you? did the hangover effect diminish after using it for a little while?
No I got those side effects as well. My doctor switched me to something else which I don't remember the name of because of my side effects with Traz. When I get home I'll find out what it is.

I used to get trazadone from my gp but one day she said they dont make them anymore,so is that BS?I remember reading the leaflet about side effects, prolongued erections for men, never affected me like that, prob cos of the diaz in my system, permanant erections are supposed to be quite painful, thinking of asking my gp about getting them again, used to get the 50mg,think they might only make 100mg min now.Found them useful for sleep, had no grogginess next day.

They are certainly still available in both the 50mg and 100mg format. They should be readily available at all pharmacies.
