George Springer
The Houston Astros outfielder George Springer hasn't had a strong start to the season.
He was batting .204 (9x44) entering Saturday's game with just one home run. He broke out of his slump in a big way going 3-for-4 in the loss to the Tigers Saturday.
The biggest hit for Springer came in the first inning. With a runner on, Springer tomahawked a pitch off the foul poll from Tigers starter, Justin Verlander.
The ball was in the air for only 4.4 seconds.
The ball left Springer's bat with an exit velocity of 115.9 MPH -- the second fastest exit velocity for a home run in 2016. It also the fifth-fastest velocity recorded by StatCast since the data became public in 2015.
Springer's dinger behind only two home runs from Giancarlo Stanton (119.2, 118.5 in 2015), Alex Rodriguez (116.5 in 2015), and Carlos Gonzalez (117.4 in 2016).
The ball bounced into a funnel cake fryer. The funnel cake stand was shut down for some reason. I’m not sure what could be on a baseball that a deep fryer couldn’t kill, but I guess this is America in 2016.
Astros fans can only hope Saturday night sparks Springer's offense going forward.
