So, I have been taking Diazepam for a very long time and always take mine Sublingually(let them melt under the tounge Tongue ).  For me personally they work within ten minutes and go from zero to full on very quickly (i.e.when I first feel them working, it feels like the whole dose kicks in at the same time; it's not a steady rise, it's more of a 'Hit' if you like.)

I used to swallow them for years, but as you would know if you get anxiety regularly, when an anxiety/panic attack comes on, more often than not it's an instant feeling of panic. So getting your meds to work quickly is essential.

Now, you'll have to forgive me if im wrong on this part (infact I'm hoping that some of the senior members or "people in the know", will actually confirm or put me straight on this one). But my understanding is this; when you take medication Sublingually, they work a whole LOT quicker than swallowing them as they get absorbed straight into the blood stream(as you have absolutely loads of blood vessels under your tounge), also bypassing the stomach and liver which can destroy some of the active ingredient. I know this to be the case with buprenorphine(Subutex), infact if you swallow buprenorphine most of it will get destroyed in the stomach.

Anyway, I know that Alprazolam taste absolutely awful, at least the ones I tried did Confused , thats if they were what they were actually meant to be!!

Does anyone take there Alprazolam Sublingually? Or is there just no need as they are a fast acting benzo, but with a short half life(again, that's my understanding from what I have read).

I'd be intrested to know what people's thoughts are on this one, I am wondering if it's worth suffering the awful taste for a quicker/more effective release? ...Or is there just no gain from taking Alprazolam sublingually? I know some meds just do not work when taken that way.

With the Diazepam, the taste is not an issue, infact I actually quite like the taste of them, and they definitely work quicker for me taking them Sublingually.

Thankyou FishFarmer! - Defo agree with you on that being the best way to take Diazepam! Smile

I'm still hoping that someone will give up some info on the Alprazolam when taken sublingually, and if they do taste as disgusting as the ones I had some time ago...??

Edit: Also same questions on Kpins, never had Klonopin before but I am thinking of giving it a try, as I seen somebody posted on here(sorry can't remember the thread) about changing your Benzos around now and then if your tolerance level is really high on any particular type of Benzo...Thanks Smile
Thanks Mr.Chucky, I'll keep an eye out for them...Not seen/heard of them, Tbh Alprazolam is not something I know an awful lot about.

FF: Well at least the ones I had must have been the real deal, they were imposiable to leave them in your mouth while they melted, not just cuz of the taste but they didn't seem to melt properly and took ages. Think I only tried them like that once, once was enough! Just wondered if the bars would be different, but I guess the answer is probably no! I think I will try the clonazepam, just to try to, 'rotate' my benzos around, I seem to need too many of late for the same effect...

Thanks for your help Smile

Hi Kristof!

Yes, they DEFINATLEY work quicker, and within 10mins you'll get the whole effect hit you at once, more or less.

The active ingredient goes straight into the blood stream if you let them melt under your tounge (Sublingually or just, SL), as it's absorbed by the blood vessels thus bypassing the stomach and liver etc.

Someone else might provide more biological detail, but remember that the liver breaks diazepam down into a number of active metabolites. I guess you won't totally bypass that, as I imagine it would be virtually impossible to absorb it all through the tongue and swallow none. To be honest, I take as directed (i.e. swallow whole with water) because I'm all about keeping a steady level in my body and eventually tapering down. But all our medical needs vary.

Can't add anything on xanax other than to confirm it tastes awful.
Wow, I never gave any thought to taking these meds sublingual. Etizolam comes in a mouth dissolving form that works quite fast. Good to know and good thread. I have a script for alps but would like to switch over to Klons as my Dr. refuses to prescribe valium.
To ward off an impending panic attack (if have time) or to deal with Panic Attack already occurring - I will SL my alp.
Not for a high, but to rush the effects of my meds on panic attack.
Distinctive taste, but who notices or cares when feel like about to die?

I don't know about other bzs.
I did have a friend yrs ago - He Chewed his bzs (all types)
YUCK!

One good thing:  once you know that taste, fake ones will never be same.  You'll notice taste missing.

Buffers and whether they'll dissolve SL are all different
(better brands seem to dissolve better than generics etc - is that my imagination?)
No matter the benzo, I sl.triazolam is gritty and gross. All others seem fine. Ambien seems to be a nightmare sl. Kpins have a sweet taste and and certainly hit faster using this route of administration. Especially when there is food in the tummy.
grapefruit juice for an extra effect Smile , more half life Smile .
The only one I get sublingual is Ambien, when I can get that version from my vendor.
Believe SL stands for sublingual,or under the tongue.
I just take diaz by mouth down the throat, don't like the taste under my tongue, nothing against others doing them the SL route,if it helps more then thats good for ya.
