Hi,

There is only one IOP I know that has it, and it is eye bulging expensive...once my pharmacy, well, the whole province had a shortage of Temazepam 30mg capsules, which I am prescribed 30 a month, I wish it was 15mg x 3 at night, because it's always worked, even with no tolerance, with 60mg best, I wish I could have it in between, but I'm not buying temazepam when I already have a script and my insurance covers it all and it's dirt cheap anyway (through regular means). So when there was shortage of the only generic they stocked, we have 3 brands of generic temazepam, there is brand name Restoril, but only have been given it when there was the shortage, and one point, they couldn't help me, and 5 other pharmacies in town were all having the same issue, I called my doc, and he faxed them a script of 30 Flurazepam 30mg. I liked it, was very therapeutic and for me, the fact it has a very long (likely the longest acting benzo in all of those available in Canada..250+ hours of half-life), to me it just made it so I didn't need any anxiety medication in the morning. But that was only for one month, after that a generic company started making temazepam capsules to profit from the shortage and I switched back.

I have a little experience with something else I enjoyed a lot, which is not available here normally, Lendormin (Brotizolam), it's less expensive, at least the IOP I trust, well one of them, which is about 3, but still pretty expensive compared to others. I only got a little the one time I did, I think it was 10 or 20, but I really enjoyed how, unlike triazolam, at the same dosage, it puts you to sleep almost immediately and you wake up not because suddenly the medication has left your body...I have a moderate tolerance, at least, from what I've read others were at, it made me sleep very peacefully, none of the anxiety killing that Flurazepam has in the morning, but sleeping so deeply (and brotizolam from some research I have read, does not mess with normal stages of sleep, which is rare, the only medication I know made for sleep primarily, are another benzo only available in the US, although nobody uses it for some reason I can't understand (Doral...Quazepam) and the other is a TCA antidepressant called Trimipramine, they got doses up to 100mg, but just 12.5mg works fine on me when I want to reduce my tolerance, I go a week or two on trimipramine, it's a very safe TCA too, unlike its close cousin imipramine, it is not cardiotoxic at all, it has very strong anticholinergic effects though, dry mouth and dry eyes.

Anyway, can somebody point to a place where Flurazepam is available and cheaper than over a hundred dollar for 30x30mg capsules.

Never heard of it, but you might want to try flubromazepam. Very similar to temazepam, in my experience.

This one is cool-rare benzos are always a bit of a seach mission.

Off topic: Why not go with temazepam from iop not that rare.  Also vals or ativan plus a temazepam works well on those bad weeks where sleep is elusive.

Me? I would just get the temazepam-wish I could still get it prescribed.

Dalmane (in America/Canada), Dalmadorm elsewhere, or just generic flurazepam capsules are great. The very long half-life, longer than any RC benzo (except when phenazepam powder was sold and nobody had an idea what they were doing and taking massive doses from it, especially since it takes a while to kick in like oxazepam, say).

Flurazepam is a partial BZD agonist and last 250+ hour of half-life, this could very well be the methadone of benzo users, people who don't want to taper because they do get benefits from benzos. It helps insomniacs just like it helps people with GAD (when you wake up and have a degree of tolerance, the "hangover" will actually be wow I'm waking up without anxiety this is awesome).

Asking your doctor for it will be easy, it's not like the typical person who never comes for health concerns or yearly check-ups who show up asking for 2mg xanax bars or 2mg rivotril (klonopin), the 2 most common benzo in the US I understand from years of being some guy on the internet, 20 years in november(!) who's got a pretty good memory, photographic memory which helped me a lot when it was time to pass exams when I had my doctor script me 15 Seconals a year, in 2000 to 2004, in the end of october 2004, they removed all the good barbs except bulalbital which is in Fiorinal/Fioricet and phenobarbital, which doctors with no sense of morality will do quick benzo detox with mixed in with IV drug users etc. It's become rare as the phenomenon is now more understood (benz withdrawl and protacted benzo withdrawal.

As for something very related to it, there is something called norflurazepam which was invented by Sternbach just like flubromazepam (thanks by the way, I loved f-pam, but it's the only rc benzo Canada saw fit to ban expressly, which they have to because benzo's schedule is very low here, but yep, no more ordering flubromazepam, although I could order flubromazolam if I could find it. Good old drug law logic...

But I gotta say that I enjoyed Flurazepam everytime I've had it, effects are subtle for a while and suddenly you realize that you haven't been this relaxed in a long time, and it doesn't feel artificial, maybe it's the partial agonism.

If you wanted to try norflurazepam you could just toss together a mixture of 1 part meclonazepam, 1 part diclazepam and 2 parts of phenazepam to get the same effect(joking, of course). It's a very decent RC benzo imo with some of the muscle relaxing qualities of meclonazepam in mid range doses, the long duration and mild hypnotic effects of diclazepam and the powerful anxiolysis of phenazepam. I've never tried actual Dalmane but norflurazepam reminds me of a mix of those three RC benzos I mentioned.

I could probably come up with an Rx formula to compare it to but the muscle relaxation was more on par with meclonazepam than something like diazepam, the mild hypnotic effect almost equivalent to a low/mid range dose of diclazepam and the extremely powerful yet natural feeling anxiolysis of phenazepam seemed to paint the experience of this benzo. Both diclazepam and phenazepam have a very long active half-life and their effects can be felt for days sometimes so it was a toss up between which one would add the longest half life to the drug.

I completely understand what you meant about the 'natural' feeling of relaxation, i've only felt that from phenazepam. It comes on really slowly, slipping in unannounced, and you suddenly notice whatever had you fretting has packed up its bags and gone elsewhere for the next 24-60 hours! It's such a natural feeling benzo because it's so subtle, but I think in terms of pure anxiolysis it is one of the most powerful. It doesn't have all the potential bells and whistles of some of the more popular benzos, but it does a superb job of making you feel at ease. I've never felt any kind of inebriation from it even when I first sampled it and tested up to 5 mg at one time. The higher the dose the more amnesia you may find, but marked muscle relaxation, benzo euphoria and that sloppy yet clean drunken feeling are completely absent from its effect profile. I've always had the authentic Russian tablets laying around as a staple of my collection and I wouldn't trade them for any other benzo because they're so functional.
...Every benzo has one area where it shines and holds value over the others and I think phenazepam is the 'no fun, strictly business' member of the family. It keeps you feeling like you're secure with a roof over your head and bread on the table without the feelings of excitement that life's luxuries can instill in you.
