This man is a menace.
He plans to roll back the Obama Administration's focus on emptying prisons of non-violent offenders, is intent on doubling down on the counterproductive and immoral war on drugs, and is basically undoing everything AG Eric Holder Jr. did. Thank Trump and his cronies for painting a picture of apocalyptic America and getting many to buy in based on fear. I am so bloody angry right now. America is living in one of the safest times we have had in recent memory (violent crime peaked in 1991). To make matters worse, it is shown that Sessions owns a select few mutual funds which are invested in part in the privatization of the US prison system.
Wanna read a good book? Read Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari. It breaks down in detail how our so-called war on drugs has failed and why it will never work.
Jeff Sessions is a moron. F**k him. -dc
I try not to hate anyone but I hate Sessions with a passion, he is an evil, petty creep. He's out to ruin people's lives.

I think it is important to keep a watchful eye on whatever he is up to, find and support local politicians who are opposed to his viewpoints, and be heard. The vision Sessions has is terrifying and can set us back decades. The guy is like the second coming of Harry Anslinger. -dc
These archaic drug laws especially on Marijuana are ridiculous and have to go.
He is horrible. It's just so terrible and sad. No care for anything that doesn't benefit him and his teammates. I have so much to say, but it makes me tongue tied with anger. Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll check this out.
Listening to our independent radio station the other day...a guy was talking about Sessions, the drug war, the legalization of Marijuana etc.
He urged those in states that have legalized Marijuana to not get complacent, and to not fall into the trap of "marijuana=OK" but "opioids, cocaine=not OK".
This guy made the most sense of anyone I've heard on this issue, not just citing the inordinate prison population, but in terms of personal rights and the unavoidable risks of living in a technological society. He urged us to fight for these rights, even when there are certain things we might find distasteful.
He said simply, there's NOTHING wrong in using drugs.
He finished the argument citing the fact that automobile accidents cause X number of deaths every year (more than ODs) and that our response to drugs, in a sane society, should be the same as with automobiles: we attempt to make our roads safer, put up traffic lights and signs, require certain safety measures from the manufacturers, and educate people about how to drive safely. So damn simple. (Wish I could remember who it was, but I only caught the tail end of it).
War on drugs give money to many people, including that inside goverments. Is really easy, you have some that it should be sell it at 10 bucks, then you ban it, and the same thing now cost 1000 or more. Easy money . Worst part, is that one of the most dangerous drugs are perfectly legal, alcohol . This drug cause more deaths that most of the illegal drugs out there.
Well, I see that our buddy Sessions is going to have to testify regarding his involvement with the Trump/Russia mess and potentially face perjury charges. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I hope this POS goes down hard:
On Saturday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions canceled his scheduled appearance before an open session of the House and Senate appropriations committees set for the coming week.
Think Progress reported that Sessions sent letters to the chairmen of the committees saying that he will send his deputy Rod Rosenstein in his stead. He explained that he was withdrawing from public testimony because he believes members of the committee intend to question him on “issues related to the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election.”
Sessions came off particularly badly in last Thursday’s testimony by fired FBI Director James Comey, leading Dan Rather to label him a “marked man.” If Comey is to be believed, Sessions has been under FBI scrutiny for months for his meetings with Russian government officials — meetings that Sessions lied about at his confirmation hearing.
In his testimony, Comey said that he could not go to Sessions with his concerns about President Donald Trump’s attempts to stop the Russia investigation because he knew that Sessions was about to be exposed as acting on the Russian government’s behalf and was therefore not to be trusted.
“Our judgment, as I recall, is that [Sessions] was very close to and inevitably going to recuse himself for a variety of reasons. We also were aware of facts that I can’t discuss in an opening setting that would make his continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic,” Comey said.
It later came out in closed session questioning that Sessions had yet another meeting with Russian ambassador to the U.S. and purported spymaster Sergey Kislyak.
Judd Legum at Think Progress said, “Instead of testifying publicly before the appropriations committees, where these matters could be discussed in the light of day, Sessions will appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee. The Washington Post and USA Today report that Sessions’ appearance is expected to be closed.”
We see this.
In my opinion this is starting to go away from a spirited dialog to something else.
I will just leave it at that.
For now.
