This is a non-partisan observation. I don't watch anything political 24/7, but was on my
favorite site (wonder which one?) and the TV was on so I was glancing on and off with
members of this senate committee grilling DOJ Jeff Sessions.
I just can't believe how many "older" members of the senate are there. Good Lord!
Have these people been around for 50 years or something? Some of them couldn't even
articulate what they wanted to say, and they were reading it off their notes, including
Jeff Sessions!
Just like any occupation, when your time is up they need to step aside and let some of the
new blood take over. Now, I am in no way, condemning someone because of age, but the
members of Congress and Senate should not be in power forever! A President has a two term
limit, so why can't something like that be imposed on these "career" members of Senate.
And this was just SOME members of senate. That's not even counting the rest of the senate
AND the Congress. Congressional members are just as old.
New blood would equal new ideas. Tired of the same 'ol, same 'ol.
On related thinking, of older members of congress, I saw an article about the DC pharmacy that delivers the RX's to the members of congress and we;
WOULD BE SHOCKED WHAT THEY ARE TAKING AND THEN MAKING LAWS FOR US REGULAR PEOPLE TO FOLLOW.
A lot of Alzheimer's and many other scripts that would seem very problematic to be running things.
I will try to find article and post it.
Sounds a lot like the House of Lords we have in the UK, most just turn up for the day and get a big wad of money for just attending, some spend half the time asleep drunk on subsidized booze in the bar thats open 24/7, time it was just scrapped, they aint even elected, most are there cos they inherited their titles of Lords of god knows what, its outdated like so much of our system, they live in another world than the rest of us have to.

Here is the article I was talking about.
Well not the exact one but I think it will do.

Just four blocks East of the Capitol building is Grubb's Pharmacy: Washington, D.C.'s oldest community pharmacy, dating back to 1867.
Grubb's has a unique relationship with lawmakers nearby. The pharmacy brings drugs by the carload to members of the House and Senate, who can simply pick up their prescription deliveries at the Capitol's Office of the Attending Physician (OAP), STAT first reported.
The arrangement between Grubb's and the Capitol has been in effect since 1997 with deliveries to the OAP occurring nearly every day. The OAP keeps a low profile, but lawmakers can seek basic medical care at its clinic for an annual fee just over $600, STAT reports.
"It's definitely a special arrangement that no other pharmacy in the country can say that they have," pharmacist and owner Mike Kim told STAT. "In other states, [a community pharmacy] may fill prescriptions for maybe one or two members. But this location, you're getting like every member from all across the country. It's very cool."
Kim says he's less starstruck by politicians who frequent his pharmacy and that he's gotten used to knowing some of their most personal medical information.

Paying less for prescription drugs

"At first it's cool, and then you realize, I'm filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well.
And these are the people that are running the country," Kim told STAT, mentioning treatments for conditions like Alzheimer's and diabetes.
"It makes you kind of sit back and say, 'Wow, they're making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday," Kim said.
Later Wednesday, however, after a backlash on social media, Kim tried to clarify his comments on Alzheimer's treatments for members of Congress.

"I am not aware of any member that actually has Alzheimer's and would certainly not disclose any such information if I did know," Kim told STAT, adding that "patient privacy is a very serious matter that I am committed to upholding."
The pharmacy bills lawmakers' individual insurance plans as they would for any other customer. Kim says he does not provide special discounts, but that members of Congress sometimes get to skip the long lines when they come in.
"The Capitol kind of takes somewhat of a precedence just because of who we're servicing," Kim told STAT. "The member might be calling to say, 'Hey, I'm about to leave in five minutes, where's my drug? So [the clinicians at the Capitol] get into panic mode as well. I wouldn't say they've ever gotten frustrated with us, but it's more of a concern like, 'Oh my gosh, the member just called us, we need to know where the drug is.'"
According to STAT, few lawmakers are aware of Grubb's relationship with the OAP-- in their survey of roughly two dozen House and Senate members, only Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Georgia, a former pharmacist himself, knew about Grubb's.
"It's a great opportunity for us as pharmacists, also, to showcase what we do, because that's exactly what we do is take care of patients," Carter told STAT. "This is another example of how we go above and beyond our call of duty to help people in health care."
The Politician’s Pharmacy.

Politicians, like the rich, are different. In some respects, dangerously so. Those on Capitol Hill have their own on staff physicians, and whatever drugs they want, at any time, all for the very low cost of around $600.00 a year. There’s a nice deal for you.
Quote:Nearly every day for at least two decades pharmaceutical drugs have been brought by the carload to the Capitol – an arrangement so under the radar that even pharmacy lobbyists who regularly pitch Congress on their industry aren’t aware of it.

Having already dealt with the fallout from having a sitting president who had Alzheimer’s disease in office (Reagan), it would probably be right good idea if a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s barred one from the political workforce. Most diseases are manageable, but leaving those who have Alzheimer’s disease in place while making extremely serious decisions about policy…uh, no.
The handy dandy pharmaceutical stock was news to me, however, I can’t say I’m surprised or shocked. There are a whole lot of reasons that people won’t give up such a cushy job, and this would be one of them. There’s much more to the story, you can read about it here.
Older conservative white men deciding on what's right for women. So wrong. They equate birth control to being a slut when many women NEED birth control pills to help regulate their bodies from pain and serious issues.
Term limits for EVERY political position!!!!
I think members of congress and senate should have to go thru what we do to tend to our medical needs.
