We're all in violent agreement on the need for clean, renewable energy. It's how we best go about achieving it that concerns me.
Personally, I don't believe that placing taxes on CO2 and carbon emissions solves the problem. In fact it only serves to expand an already bloated government that we all recognize as wholly inefficient and ineffective.
Fusion energy may become a reality in our lifetime... it will only succeed if economic incentives , not taxes, are in place for its development and distribution.
Human survival is best served by de-politicizing the issue, avoiding blame and castigation, continuing to advance discovery and keeping an open mind to the facts.
Of course having a well thought out plan is essential, albeit difficult in the politically polarized times in which we live.
Perhaps we'd do better if we changed the mantra from "climate change" to "political change"...

"

Placing a tax is spouted as the solution and only hurts the most vulnerable- the ones who can least afford it. This problem needs a technological solution....fusion, renewables - whatever but a tax ani't gunna do it...…………………….
Since technology essentially created this mess, then yes I agree they need to fix it. Carbon taxes would hurt the most vulnerable and not just gasoline taxes, but any taxes on large corporate energy producers as well, because they will just pass the cost on to us. Carbon taxes are a hot button issue and those in power need to tread lightly. Instead of carbon taxes, how about more tax incentives.
The transition is happening, but is it happening fast enough? Most studies give us about 12 years, before the tipping point of irreversible climate damage. Though the Poland summit did get an agreement of 200 nations many see it as too little too late. Interesting that four countries US, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait blocked language welcoming the findings of the global scientific community. The company you keep eh!
Now that the Dem's have control of the house, Mr. T is going to have a hard time against the Climate Tax folks in 2019.

in these cases I am from Missouri as the old sayings go, citations.
Oh I am sure industry causes some but one good volcano will do decades of industry.
I think it is more natural cycle than most , just my opinion as they also say everyone has one.
It has been taken advantage of to make lots of money.
We just do not have the technology to replace fossil burning fuel ATM, although I would love to see it.
I also do not think taxing the carbon will do much more than line the pockets of politician and hanger ons groupies and cronies of them.
Hydro electric needs more fully implemented but darn because it changes the temperature by a couple degrees downstream, so ya can't have it both ways , oh unless the goal is to reduce the population anyway.
Wind, yes lets do more but dare it cause flying birds of all sorts to be killed .
Geothermal, yes.
Solar, yes.
Games are played on the property where the panels are located oh and then where the panels are mfg.
Nuclear, maybe.
France produces 80% of their power with Nuk Plants, of different design that most Japanese.
Can and will we put the effort and money that it takes , dunno.
Can we stop it from lining pockets rather than solving the problem, dunno. It is looking like not.
So many considerations I figure it will be all over before we decide to get along and solve the problem,
ok rant over.
A letter published on the Wall Street Journal on
Wednesday, 45 economists said a carbon tax “offers the most cost-effective lever to reduce carbon emissions at the scale and speed that is necessary” to fight climate change.
The new tax would affect the price of goods or services that emit carbon, like fossil fuels. Economists said energy bills and gasoline prices would rise at first, but they called on the government to return that tax revenue directly to American citizens.
“The majority of American families, including the most vulnerable, will benefit financially by receiving more in ‘carbon dividends’ than they pay in increased energy prices,” the letter said.
Something to chew on, though I highly doubt "the government to return that tax revenue directly to American citizens."
Also mentioned was " But lawmakers would need to act fast to pass it, and even then, more drastic steps would still need to be taken to combat the growing threat."
I think part of that last quote is related to livestock production, as it contributes a significant portion of greenhouse gases and deforestation where forests serve as carbon capturing. As a person who LOVES smoked ribs, flap meat for carne asada etc. I'm not about to become a vegan or vegetarian anytime soon. I have cut back quite a bit though, especially dairy, but mostly for health reasons.
I agree that "So many considerations I figure it will be all over before we decide to get along and solve the problem," We just don't have the will to solve this problem, so in the end Mother Nature is going to do it for us.
Finally a quote from Albert Einstein (Nobel prize 1921): "Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." Almost a hundred years ago some could see this problem on the horizon.
Stepping off my soapbox now!
Well I am skeptical about the ability of the gov to return taxes right back to the people
That is what makes this a big scam
It is laughable to think IMO the tax will be returned
And of course these certain ones calling on tax are getting benefits if you could trace the money IMO.
Take money from the regular working folk and then put it into the hands of corrupt politicians and their friends
Or take It from companies producing something and give it to non producers
This tax is not going to work unless all the money is mandated to develop alternative subsidized energy
Until it is affordable then let it fly on its own
I am in favor of always using what is called BAT, Best Available Technology. In Lou of tax
At least you can see something for the expense
Just my opinions
If they developed a technology to replace the bad actors IMO would be the way to go
I did see that occasional cortex day the world is going to end in 12 years so it might not make any difference
Yes, the climate changes over the ages... but it sure don't feel like global warming around here today!
Anytime a politician says they are going to tax and < for our good too > return the tax in some form of tax credit or to fund some green energy imitative- hold onto your wallet folks.
Notice how it's the celebrities and 1%'ers who preach how we need to change.
Meanwhile they jet all over the globe and have umpteen houses and cars etc etc.-- just how many going to Davos this week and just imagine the jet fuel to get them and their entourage there. Oh-- and who is paying for all this???- yeah you got it bud.
Remember folks there is a scripted play here for a reason. Rich get together and we pay. Think about it and make your own experienced judgment.
They get together here or there all over the world < and I am talking hundreds and hundreds of participants > and come up with how they are going to change the world for us.
Oh well, so morale of the story then is?
As much as the world revolves and changes at record speeds some things like tax and spend, just NEVER seems to advance/change... With that, carry on ...…
<<<<<<<<<<<< I am spent and with that my gift to you is the last word.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A fantastic day if you choose to folks... ;0)$~………………….Folken
So I just listened to Mr. former VP Al Gore- he is in Davos folks; along with hundreds of his other 1%'ers, and we are paying 1 way or another.
He said ...'we pollute the atmosphere the equivalent to 500,000 Hiroshima sized atomic bombs going off each and every single day' and he repeated it for emphasis.
That's 500,000...…………..it is these types of statements<< I mean seriously how the heck do you come up with something like that >> that turn people like myself off and I just close my ears.
More needs to be done. - agreed
Exaggerations and with no scientific basis does not help...………….
You go sunshine and remember stay close on the script, while sticking it to the all us who have to pay....for gas, to heat our homes, to turn our lights on & use the stove to feed our families...……..Oh crap we need to pay more cause we are the problem.
<pat on the wee little head> ;0)$~………………….JMHO is all...............…< and you have one too >.........….Folken
