Could see this coming...……<< big pharma meet big tobacco >>
Purdue Pharma has agreed to pay $270 million to settle a historic lawsuit brought by the Oklahoma attorney general, who accused the OxyContin maker of aggressively marketing the opioid painkiller and fueling a drug epidemic that left thousands dead in the state.
Folken
there happen to be a bus load of peoples whose names should be added to the list of defendants.
in more than thirty five years, when did big pharma ever not aggressively promote a medicine?
my elder doctor sister was past president of NYC hospitals. ran a womans center or two. And i was there when a rep offered her anything if she would script his crap. He offered her an apt on first avenue and first street in NYC.
it was her dream. But being ethical was her reality.
The stupid celebrities promoted big pharmas wares for years cuz the law exempted a celeb from having to state all the main side effects of a med.
The minute they brought kevil nealon? and arnold palmer together, golfing, to promote some med, i knew the class action law suits were beginning. and, soon enuff they did.
And i detest reading the fine print of a commercial and learning that the lunatic on screen is an actor. If the product worked so well, maybe real former patients would be alive to make realistic commercials.
Cuz the people I know whom had Humira injections for RA, said it was miserable. God forsaken. And but for her five kids, she would do an air bubble or whatever. The humira was more torture than the RA.
Please, I dont have a PDR. But you must research the side effects of any medicine drs want to give you. Learn the terms of art.
Because Big pharma will lie. It lies all the time. It has made humira the snake oil of our time. Scripted for all problems? Dry skin? humira. Acne? humira.
You got an ailment? humira.
You know I find that difficult to believe.
So true, folken...big pharma meet big tobacco. Charon's words ring so true here: We must be responsible for managing our own health in these times (maybe not her exact words, but close, I think). I'm not sure if that ruling will change the situation any more than other rulings changed tobacco use, but I hope so. Celebrities have also tragically succumbed: Prince, Tom Petty, and so many others. We have got to do our own research and not rely on exaggerated and selective marketing/commercials or doctors, who may receive kickbacks.
Unrelated to oxy, my husband takes several meds for diabetes; his internal medicine doctor prescribed them, so he took them. He had been having some physical upset for several months and started researching his meds and learned this particular side effect was common with the one drug. Of course, the doctors had never mentioned it. He decided to discontinue that one and one other, and AMAZINGLY, the condition disappeared, and his blood sugar levels came down. READ, READ, READ.
But is $270 million really going to any effect on the addicts of this stuff ? Education, loving families , friends and lots of prayers ,god bless to all addicts out there too bad there is no magic wand to wave .......................................
Not done yet---- Oklahoma only the first one:
.."A group made up of more than 500 cities, counties and Native American tribes across the United States has filed a massive lawsuit accusing members of the Sackler family, who own the maker of the opioid painkiller OxyContin, of helping to create “the worst drug crisis in American history”.
The lawsuit represents communities in 26 states and eight tribes and accuses Sackler family members of knowingly breaking laws in order to enrich themselves to the tune of billions of dollars, while hundreds of thousands of Americans died..."
<< probably go bankrupt before they see the money >>
<< where was our government, which is accused of too much power and overreaching??? >>
<< maybe a little overreaching and governance was just the ticket here >> << naaah!!!-- just leave it to the 'intelligent' consumer >>
wonder what Ralph Nader is up to these days...………………….
JMHO is all

1. Hand it out like candy
2. Make billions of dollars
3. Get into legal trouble
4. Blame the patients
5. Pull the leash back after millions of people are hooked
6. Payout some small fraction of what you earned in some class action lawsuit
7. Repeat
i leave the tv on in background during day. tons of commercials for every type illness in world. and u r to tell ur doctor about it.
didn't it used to be the other way around? our physicians informed us of what is new in industry. and trusted.
now, at nite, and evening, i count the commercials i see for humira. It cannot ethically be the Snake Oil Cure for just about every illness they think of now.
And how come no one told us we shall tell u all u have hep C cuz u are a baby boomer. Yeah, ok. but what activities did one need to engage in to acquire hep C? and i hope i dont hurt anyone, i am a cynic and an attorney. and i saw alot living with my Dr. sister every weekend and all. But i don't friggin believe that eight pills will cure hep c. i hear it comes back as cancer with full force and effect.
not really a cure for the baby boomer illness? When did they think of this? and how come none of us were told when young.
I guess it would be a kinder, more gentle world if we could trust doctors again. If they could practice medicine again. But, we are stuck with this insane world which makes people already afraid of what disease they may have, to become far more afraid. Then they get false hope with eight pills will cure hep C.
And, if u ask for a med, u r history. u will never get it. omg i asked for antibiotics as other doctors recommend for a dental problem. And even the nurses kept saying she needs an antibiotic. And i still have not gotten one.
When i am reformatting my computer cuz of Rat bastards thinking i have hidden sources, i play a game on smart phone. it is scripture. but i was asked to do a survey. And the survery indicated how would u feel if your pharmacist made the decision if u get that med today. do u trust them more than doctors? would seeing a pharmacist be better, equal or worse than seeing a dr and then going to the pharmacy.
This was the only survey i agreed to do in ten yrs. So, i suspect pharmacists will start making more decisions. I guess they watch the commercials on TV also.
well i hope they have as much education on scripting meds as our political representatives had before they took over in that realm. They and good buddies Big Pharma.
I miss older doctors whom worked so hard to actually help a person get better.
Now, it is all, hmmm, how much can we make on this one? wink wink nudge nudge.
Pharmacists & Doctors are provided extra compensation by pharma for promoting/advertising space in the store or Dr.'s office.
So they prescribe << cough cough >> suggest/differently.
Believe it.

I have successfully asked to try new medicines with previous doctors. But it's like instantly getting a sniper's scope dot on your forehead. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in 2019.
Simple insane. What about Alcohol ? how many dead cause it ? their sellers don't do aggressively marketing ?
