What's the most random/pointless thing you've bought from Amazon, Ebay etc?

I bought a Geiger counter from Ebay. The most radioactive thing I have is a banana i.e. not very radioactive. Somehow it seemed like a great idea to spend £100 on a radiation detector. Don't even live in an area where radon gas is a problem.

I've wasted money in other ways, but that's the most random. But I'm not alone... confess your most pointless buy ;-)

lol, that is a good one. Mine was cheaper , common, but useless, a pill cutter . Nothing better than a sharp knife to do the job, much less complicated .

I know what you mean, you can do without a pill cutter, but they are sort of handy. I have one, although I think it is less good than my large kitchen knife - but I wouldn't keep that knife by my bed! I'd have had a painful accident with it!

@folken - I don't think it picks up radon gas since it is mainly an alpha emitter and alpha radiation is blocked by a thin sheet of paper, or even a few inches of air. So I don't think it can travel through the glass tube of a Geiger counter - it needs a more specialised device.

That said, I'm not worried as my area isn't high radon anyway. Plus there is a well ventilated car park beneath my home. Air pollution is more of an issue for me. But people should take radon seriously, it is the 2nd biggest cause of lung cancer (after smoking).
I bought a 1,000,000 dinar bill from a failed economy for 2 dollars US

Haha! That's great. Smile

I've another to add to my list... I'm a big movie fan, and many years ago nearly broke into the business (I din't quite make it, so started a new career). Anyway, I have an uncanny ability to stumble into movies being shot on location. And I don't just mean small indie movies, I mean Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" and Spielberg shooting "Ready Player One" (to name just two). Because of my brush with the industry years ago, I know the names for everything, can speak the lingo, etc, I've ended up being mistaken for part of the crew ;-)

Anyway, this has meant a few pointless eBay purchases. I've got a 35mm film trailer of a movie I love. It is utterly useless as I don't have a 35mm projector - they cost tens of thousands. Even my eBay addiction isn't that insane! But I also paid a silly amount of money buying a strip of film from "Dunkirk" in the 70mm IMAX format. Do I have an IMAX projector? Of course not! Rolleyes

I have a very addictive personality with everything in my life. I go from obsession to obsession & it's like once the need in me is filled , I completely lose interest in a former obsession. It's the strangest thing & one of my recent obsession was buying Scented Yankee Candles. I made myself go broke for awhile. Since I bought so many both from the store & their mail order catalog. I still like my house to smell good but I won't buy anymore. I have enough to last a long time. lol
