The Department of Treasury (Treasury), not Social Security, will make automatic
Economic Impact Payments. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will
generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card,
or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your monthly benefit payment.
SSI recipients will receive their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from
the Treasury Department. Treasury anticipates these automatic payments will go out
no later than early May.
SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action to receive their
$1,200 Economic Impact Payments. The payments will be automatic.

By taking proactive steps to enter information on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
website about you and your qualifying children, you will receive the $500 per
dependent child payment in addition to the $1,200 individual payment.
If qualifying SSI recipients do not provide their information to the IRS soon,
the $500 payment per qualifying child will be delayed.
People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’ website,
should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the
bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their
Direct Express information on file.
