People smugglers along the southern border openly advertise their services on Facebook
and the social media business has failed to remove such content.
A plethora of user accounts have posted offers to facilitate illegal border crossings on
the platform. Some even advertise directly how much they charge for the service.
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.), Who took office in January, has repeatedly warned Facebook
about the issue in general and of a number of specific posts of this kind, but most of
them have not been removed, she said.
Facebook has so far failed to meet Cammack’s request for a personal meeting to discuss
the issue, she told The Epoch Times.
Since some of the jobs in question were paid advertisements, this raises the question of
whether Facebook is taking money, at least indirectly, from criminal cartels, which are
known to control human trafficking operations, Cammack said.
The Epoch Times warned Facebook about about a dozen posts and groups related to the issue.
Most, but not all, were subsequently removed.
“We ban content that offers or helps human trafficking, and remove it from our platform when
we get it,” a Facebook spokesman told The Epoch Times in an email.
Illegal border crossings shot up this year, after he died during the CCP (Chinese Communist Party)
virus pandemic last year.
Information from the border patrol and illegal immigrants themselves indicates that smugglers
were targeted at the U.S. immigration policy climate and used the softer approach and rhetoric
of the Biden administration as an advertising tool. Specifically, the government’s quest to stop
returning illegally crossing minors is linked to a resurgence of minor minors taking the dangerous
trail to and across the border, often with disastrous consequences.
“I’ve seen some of the most horrific atrocities, really crimes against humanity, that you can imagine,”
Cammack said. “It’s not just a national security crisis. This is a humanitarian crisis. ”
Drug cartels control the Mexican side of the border so strictly that no one gets along illegally
without paying for it, she learned from the border patrol agents during her two trips to the border,
she said.
“It is not in a form, in a way or a form of a humanitarian mission that the cartels are undertaking.
It’s about dollars and they do not care about the value of a human life. “They care to make money
and do it in the cruelest, most authoritarian way possible,” she said.
While the messages on Facebook represent people smuggling reliably and safely, the reality is
exactly the opposite.
“I personally spoke to a 9-year-old girl who could barely tell me her name because her vocal cords
issued while she was screaming while being raped by the cartel members,” Cammack said, noting
that the majority of girls are sexual. assaulted or abused on the way to the border.
Most Facebook groups related to the human trafficking activity are private, but there are many
posts that offer the illegal service to the public.
“Good morning, my people. I offer safe crossing to the US Send [me a message to] my mailbox
for more information, ”said one epic translated by The Epoch Times.
‘We have intersections through Lomas de Arena, Chihuahua. We offer camouflage, backpack with
food. I’m currently in Chihuahua. Send me [a message to my] inbox or call me at
[redacted by The Epoch Times], ”Said another report.
One video report said: “Ready for the adventure? In the name of God, ”showing footage
from the border.
‘I offer my foot crossing through Tamaulipas and through the [border] line. Just send me people
who are really interested [a message to my] mailbox. Pedestrian crossing with 3 shots at intersection
and crossing through the [border] line, but it is 100% safe, ”reads another report.
‘People, do not miss your chance to travel through the asylum application guarantee to the USA,
adults with minors. For more information, [send a message to my] inbox or call [redacted], ”Said one offer.
“The American Dream. Cross the city 100% safely by city – do not waste your time overnight – I will
take you directly to your destination. Send a WhatsApp for more information to [redacted], ”Advertised a user.
‘We still offer border crossing to the US from any country. If you are coming from another country,
you can only pay upon arrival in Mexico. We also offer services to correct your arrival with or without
a migration alert, ‘said another report.
‘I have five places for Oxnard, California. The paperwork is not free if you go through the [border] line.
Send me a message [redacted] for more information. Only people are really interested, ”said another.
Travel safely to the US led by God. We have the best people – responsible and fair. Plan your travel dates.
Click on this WhatsApp link [redacted]. Our cars are new and drivers with years of experience, full comfort
and friendly behavior, ‘said another, claiming:’ We cover all routes within the USA ‘
Cammack acknowledged that it is not easy to get rid of such posts, given the ability of smugglers to add
more and more.
But in her opinion, this does not relieve Facebook of its responsibilities.
‘They want to play on the public square and be the new public square? They must accept the responsibility
that comes with it. And so if they allow this kind of activity on their platform, they should be held
accountable for it, ‘she said.
At the very least, the company should immediately take down all the postings it has been made aware of
and adjust its algorithms so that it no longer displays this type of content to users as recommendations
when searching for related keywords or just randomly falling for them, she says. .
The Honduran ambassador met with Cammack, she said, and asked her to help with WhatsApp,
a messaging app owned by Facebook, “because the narco-terrorists use WhatsApp as their primary
means of communication to carry out activities that kill people. and destroy. communities, and really
undermine the rule of law in Honduras. ”
‘If you have a foreign government asking for our help to communicate and work with these social media
platforms, it’s a sign that they have far too much power and it’s really time for a discussion on the public
square and the role. of great technology in our everyday life and society and how it is used for good
and evil, ”she said.
Cammack did not spare the White House either.
“It is unbelievable the degree of mere incompetence that this government has shown in dealing with
the border crisis,” she said.
The administration said it was focusing on the ‘root causes’ of illegal immigration in the Central American
countries where most illegal immigrants come from in recent years. Some of the illegal aliens flee gang
violence in their homelands, many coming for better paid jobs.
It is not clear how the government intends to solve the long-standing crime problems, as well as the
large economic development gap that makes the search for life and work in the United States attractive.
The United States is sending billions in economic aid to the countries, but the problems seem to be
unabated. President Donald Trump has succeeded in forcing the countries to curb the flow of migrants
at their end by threatening to withdraw aid. The Biden administration has shown no sympathy for
such an approach.
