Air Quality Alert issued June 30 at 9:14AM EDT by NWS New York City - Upton

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland.
until 11 PM EDT this evening.
Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern.
When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician.
A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

The scariest part is their may be power outages in the near future and that's when things get really dangerous. Ice only keeps cold for so long. And not everyone has cold showers which are my go to move in the heat.
Quote:Ice only keeps cold for so long

I beg your pardon.... I kinda stay cool Big Grin

Jus sayin

Ice
Ok last nite was do able. we had a youngin from old house whom lives up here come and move more furniture.

he was collapsing in the heat. i felt fine as i had just showered after moving packages in the morn.

rained. was raining all morning. This stupid number on this computer claims it is but 75 degrees. Balderdash. They can say what they want but i know how hard it is to breath. How icky pooh pete a body can feel in this wall of soup surrounding so many of us. Hot soup to boot.

No idea what is going on yet. i left the computer in the room with AC but i had to be willing to get up to get to it. Took awhile.

So please stay safe. Be careful with animals. They need water. Their feet cannot be protected against the heat. if it would burn u to walk barefoot, don't let your baby animal walk barefoot out there.

Be blessed everyone today. If you know an elder whom has no way for food or AC shelter during the day, maybe u can volunteer to bring them to a Shelter Area.

My sister is my first line of news. Apparently we have had many deaths in our area. Not sure why the decedents could not get under cool water before they succumbed. sp?

Be safe. But try to be a good neighbor. Do not let a stranger into your home for your AC. I have done law too many years to not know the dangers of being too kind. Esp for a woman alone. Seriously. If u see NY news, people are not dealing with this or the variant or the creepy whisper joe video too well. They are afraid and are acting very inappropriately.

Be safe. Be cool like Ice Wizard. He be chill, all the time, I tell u what.
New video shows some heavy damage in Dutchess County after heavy rains and powerful winds passed through the area overnight.
About 1,697 customers remained without power in Wappingers Falls Thursday morning after dozens of trees came down on North Mesier Avenue and Spring Street, pulling electrical wires with them.

Check the updated AccuWeather forecast here.

The storm will then pass near or over the Mid Atlantic coast late tonight, and near or over Long Island and southeast New England on Friday morning.
The main threats from Elsa are heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding, tropical storm force winds especially along the south shore of Long Island and across southeast Connecticut, and associated marine and coastal hazards, including very rough seas and dangerous rip currents.
A widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts is forecast from this afternoon into Friday. The highest amounts are forecast to be from NYC to the north and west. Dangerous marine conditions should also develop on the ocean waters south of Long Island, as well as on Long Island Sound, and the south shore and eastern bays of Long Island. Tropical storm force winds will be most likely in those areas, near the south shores of Long Island and southeast Connecticut, and in some higher elevations away from the coastline. Dangerous rip currents will likely occur along the ocean beaches of Long Island.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Prepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across Southeast New York, Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut.
Potential impacts include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.
- Large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.
- A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.
- Scattered power and communications outages.
* SURGE: Little to no impacts are anticipated at this time across Southeast New York, Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut, with a reasonable worst case scenario of up to 1 foot above ground level.
* FLOODING RAIN: Prepare for rainfall flooding having possible significant impacts across across Southeast New York, Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut.
Potential impacts include: - Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and may prompt some water rescues.
- Rivers and streams may quickly become swollen with swifter currents and may overspill their banks in a few places, especially in usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may overflow.
- Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations.
Several places may experience expanded areas of rapid inundation at underpasses, low lying spots, and poor drainage areas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as storm drains and retention ponds overflow. Some road closures are possible.
* TORNADOES: Tornadoes may be possible, with limited impacts across Southeast New York, Northeast New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut. Potential impacts include: - The occurrence of isolated tornadoes can hinder the execution of emergency plans during tropical events.
- A few places may experience tornado damage, along with power and communications disruptions.
- Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneys toppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, large tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow rooted trees knocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boats pulled from moorings.
* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS: There is potential for dangerous rip currents Thursday and Friday, as well as high surf and beach erosion on Friday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS --------------------------------- * OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: When making safety and preparedness decisions, do not focus on the exact forecast track, since hazards such as flooding rain, damaging wind gusts, storm surge, and tornadoes can extend well away from the center of the storm.
Always heed the advice of local officials and comply with orders that are issued. Do not needlessly jeopardize your life or the lives of others.
When securing your property, outside preparations should be completed as soon as possible before conditions deteriorate. The onset of strong winds or flooding can cause certain preparedness activities to become unsafe.
Closely monitor https://weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to the forecast.
There is threat of tornadoes with this storm. Have multiple ways to receive Tornado Warnings. Be ready to shelter quickly in case a tornado is spotted or a Tornado Warning is issued.
* ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF INFORMATION: - For information on appropriate preparations see http://ready.gov - For information on creating an emergency plan see http://getagameplan.org - For additional disaster preparedness information see http://redcross.org NEXT UPDATE ----------- The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather Service in New York NY around 6PM EDT, or sooner if conditions warrant.

unplug electronic equipment. If u are experiencing all that mid NY is going thru today and yesterday. till tomorrow at least. Not just to sit around doing nothing. Just sayin.

power surges from lightening can damage computers, monitors and tvs. and cause sparks that may cuz a fire.

*and with all the storm damage all over southern NY, day after day, it is getting to be a beyotch.* NY changed road signs without warning nor confirmation of same. Emergency crews are all busy elsewhere. And it is dangerous as hell for the young men hired for con ed and such. Very few safety precautions and fewer covid avoidance ones when it all began. And NY is stating they are seriously considering going door to door to encourage some to get the vaccine. swell.

Be careful where u walk. or Step. (downed power lines.)

Yeah, the last storm at last house, which really rarely lost power cuz the fire dept and police dept were behind the mansion location, so those worked well, wacked the house with lightening. knocked out DH's clock. some kitchen appliances. So i must say this is probably true.
BE SAFE all of you living in the East..
