i had a distant relative whom was mildyly mildly retarded. maybe. But they convinced his mom to put him in i think it was called Wingdale.
He was fine and polite when he visited us. And we visited him.
My poor relative, for reasons unknown had several children whom were retarded. One had no fear and took busses all over the city of NY and would stop in our law office.
I pray for any of the people still alive from those institutions. Lord,surely they are angels in your Court now.

IT IS HORRIFIC HOW WE TREATED THE CHILDREN WHOM HAD CEREBRAL PALSY. Didn't the Kennedy family do a lobotomy on their daughter as she may have hurt political chances? I saw videos of her prior to that and she was just fine.
U gotta be strong to watch this. To see how we treated our fellow citizens. Because they may have been a tad bit different. God help any family or patrons still alive Lord. And treat them all specially in Heaven I pray.
