Stripers, I feel you are correct, but just in case they feel like making an example I'd prefer not to be the low hanging fruit.
It's like putting a club on your car, it's not going to stop an experienced crook but why would he even bother when a few feet away there is another car with no club?
Yes, I just compared govt. to crooks, because judging solely by their actions I rarely see a difference ; )

That's right, sometimes Western Union will ask you if you know the person. I always said "I don't, but my boss does."
In this scenario, it's probably unnecessary, but it's a good habit to get into anyway. Blaming things on a third party who's not there is a good way to diffuse a tense situation, creating comraderie, and helpful when negotiating.
"Let me check with my wife."
or
"That? Oh, it's in a private trust, I'll have to check with the board."
or
"It's not my decision to make, and the owner can be a real tool."
etc, etc...
You get the idea.

Well Mrchuckey and Lunar, I don't know. I've never had any problems sending money via WU online anywhere. I did with MoneyGram, they told me that they weren't comfortable with the transaction, but I could go to one of their locations and send it. I said "And that makes you comfortable with it"? Then I told them no thank you. It was after that I set up a WU and again, not a single rejection.
They ask no questions online. If you have the person you're sending to on your recipients list, should you choose to make one, you just click on his name, put in the dollar amount and send. It will also choose the city and country for you, once you make the recipients list. They have your information from when you set up your account, so you don't have to type that all in either. Of course if things change you can always edit. Really, once you set your account up it's just a couple of clicks.
Strange, I know I've had to show ID when sending in the past. I know it, I've never received and I remember having to show my ID Regardless, as I've said many times for the reasons I've pointed out, I really don't care. Oh, here it is on sending money via WU at an agent location, from the WU site.

1. How do I send money from an Agent location?
Simply fill out the required form and show the Agent clerk your identification card.
Give the Agent clerk your payment in cash and sign the receipt.
In addition to the money you’re sending, you must also pay transfer fees.
2. What do I need to bring to send money from an Agent location?
A current government-issued photo I.D.

And your personal information does go into a data base same as if you ordered online with the exception of giving WU your bank account or credit card numbers, which is needed to send online, and with which I'm comfortable with. WU isn't is secure and is not going to rip you. Â
Just trying to help guys. As said, I've never had WU reject a transaction and I never go to an agent anymore. It's all done in the comfort of my home with a few clicks. Seriously, if you're more comfortable going to an agent, that's fine. As said, I was just trying to help as this is so much faster and more convenient.
I like too that WU will send you an email the minute the money is picked up by the receiver, and telling you in your local time when it was picked up.

I think it might Mrchuckey. I have no idea why they accept all my transactions but reject yours. Give it a try. I send money to several Mideastern countries, you can probably guess them, the 2 major countries in the Mideast that many vendors ship from, including vendors on this site. Again, never a single rejection. I can make payments right here in my home in a couple of minutes.
I'd try making a recipients list. I can't think of anything else I do differently than you would  do.

it's quit simply a matter of personal choice........all the methods work......just choose what's best for you.
I will say I don't use WU in person because of their nosy and intrusive questions....it's none of their business.....even tho they do ask questions under the guise of "protecting" you....it's none of their business. Read above about Zander's method if you use WU.....he's quite experienced and pretty smart.......(except when he get's around women....then he's just a bowl of jello....hehehe) I lie
When I use MG (which is NOT my first choice).....I use the machine version and never deal with a live agent.
But really.....it's about what is easy and best for you.

Always walk up. Go to a poor neighborhood you won't be looked at twice. Immigrants send money home very day. Takes 5 minutes.

The "walk up" method does have one disadvantage that you all seem to be overlooking: you are on camera when you do it that way. But I guess that you have about the same amount of plausible deniability (i.e., "that wasn't me") either way...

That is absolutely true. Â But you are not necessarily on camera everywhere committing acts of questionable legality. Â At least, I'm not. Â Nor am I on camera in my own home if I were to choose to send money from there.

One nice thing about paying online via WU is you gain points, and you can use those points to waive the fees they charge to send the money! I never knew what WU Rewards/Points were until I saw I had about 120 of them. I can send a few payments without paying the $20 charge.
