Reassuring to see the consistency of replies...

- Multi Vitamin
- Vitamin C
- Krill oil
- Vitamin D3
- Biotin

Worthy to note that a good balanced diet should provide all the nutrients one requires... but who do you know that has a good balanced diet?

RE: What is on your Essential Daily Supplement list ? - ghostofjack - 11-14-2018

My diet is pretty clean/balanced. I have been obsessed with nutrition for about 10 years and spend time keeping up with the newest research & opinions.

One of the problems we have nowadays is nutrient depletion in the soils which results in less nutrients in the foods we consume. A prime example is Magnesium. I don't have the study handy but one I read showed tests of magnesium level in Spinach in the 1960's versus tests in 2017. Over 80% depletion in Magnesium in spinach in that time frame!

That is why I supplement it.

I also supplement D3 because during the cold months because I don't get enough sun exposure during most of the year.

Fish Oil is controversial, but what is not controversial is the balance of Omega 6 to Omega 3. Our ancestral diets had about a 1:1 to ratio of 6 to 3. Modern diets have about 16:1. This is one of the root causes (besides excessive carbohydrate intake) of inflammation related lifestyle diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease...that whole metabolic syndrome thing. The big things in our diets that lead to this unhealthy ratio are #1 (by far) seed oils like Canola, Corn, Soybean, etc. These are not natural foods for us. I avoid them like the plague and try to eat mostly grass fed red meat and pastured foul. Grass fed & finished red meat has a about a 2:1 ratio versus 6:1 for grain fed meat. Hopefully the fish oil help balance this ratio because it is impossible to avoid seed oils if you EVER eat out.

Of course our understanding of optimal nutrition is constantly evolving and we just do the best we can!

Not a real believer in the need for vitamins or supplements unless of course you have some underlying issue. All the vitamins you really need are in a good diet. I only add some vit D in winter.
I posted my daily routine on another thread so I thought this diet/supplement thread could also use it.

Flax seed- already ground up from you local bulk food store. Also, Flax seed capsules - it's a liquid in the capsule.
Along with a healthy diet.
I eat porridge with blueberries/cranberries and goji berries- and sprinkle on some of that ground up Flax seed ( one teaspoon full ). In the microwave for 3 minutes with milk on HIGH setting.
Later, during the day some baby carrots- an apple & an orange and maybe a celery stick. Wash down two of those Flax seed capsules every morning and one at night.

In addition I take 2-3 drops of Wild Oregano on my tongue each morning. ( it tastes awful so I take the Oregano with coffee right away to get rid of the taste. ) I personally know a woman who came down with some mysterious ailment that caused her to hospitalized for weeks while the doctors puzzled over her illness- weak/flu like symptoms that they never cured and she was in ICU. After she eventfully started to get better a nurse there told her about the Oregano - get the Wild stuff. She eventually recovered and came back to work and passed the suggestion to me it to me.
I tell every1 cause I have not has a cold or flu ever since I started using it and that has go to be 7-8 years ago- she has had the same result

Take it for what it is worth- for me my eating routine and the Oregano have come from experimenting and I have found what works for me and intend to stick to it...……..Folken

Yes, folken, I agree that, in theory,  "All the vitamins you really need are in a good diet".
And whilst virtually everybody agrees on what makes for a BAD diet, the trouble is that NO-ONE can agree on what makes 'a good' diet.
Ask the experts, and you'll get - High Carb, Low Carb, Slow Carb. No meat, seafood, white meat, red meat. etc etc etc.
If we look at the western world, what most people eat is the Standard Americian Diet (the SAD diet). It's atrocious. High sugar, high fat, nutient poor.

Sometimes people say "as long as you get your fruit and vegies".
I say Fruit is 'Nature's candy'. Out in the field it's available for only a few weeks per year -  maybe that's about as often as we should eat it.
We talk about fruit as if it should be a staple - a part of our everyday diet. I think fruit should probably be regarded as a rare treat.
But the Supermarket is full of fruit ALL year round. (Picked before it's riped, cold stored for months...etc etc).

But I also would be the first to admit that the Supplement Industry is now Big Business - they're driven by profit, not concerns for people's health.
It's really difficult to sift out the science from the marketing.

I can only talk about my own diet - which I think is probably pretty good (most of the time) but I still wouldn't go without the supplements listed at the head of the thread.
Ofcourse, each to his/her/their own.
It's like ghostofjack says, the best we can do is " spend time keeping up with the newest research & opinions."

I used to be the ideal customer for vit, would buy each separate vitamin in mega doses. Sold on to the idea, probably due to my ex they used to take 20 pills every morning with a smoothie thinking its going to extend there life.

Never again, only have a few essentials ones of high quality right now, Diet is where vitamins come from and food taste so good tooSmile

Flintstones are the best vitamins. Seriously

RE: What is on your Essential Daily Supplement list ? - folken - 11-26-2018

Flintstones are the best vitamins. Seriously

My 2cents
Yeah they make vitamins for kids like Flintstones and gummy bears etc.
Kids can't resist the sugary taste. If the kids have poor diets/won't eat veggies etc - hey go for it.
kids are growing and require the essential vit's. So, probably no harm in one vit supplement for kids ( what kids eat properly anyhow )

Adults- different story there. You know what to eat and what not to.
Some vit's/minerals/protein supplements can do you harm in excess.
Vit's that are water soluble just get peeed away- so is your money.
Others - like vit D can do you harm in excess. Even vit C which is water soluble can harm you in excess.
These tablets/capsules of vit's contain 'other' ingredients- colors/fillers etc. and then you mix them up 5/10/20 together and swallow them down
and who knows what the heck that mixture does to you.

Placebo effect in big here in these supplements.
I am sure you have heard of the study where even though the people where told up front it was a placebo- many said they felt better after taking the
pill.
BIG BIG business is behind these vit's and supplements. Double blind studies are lacking in most and where there have been verified and independent studies
they conclude no beneficial effect - unless you had some underlying deficiency.

Been using Gerital Liquid some lately, I like it. High potency B vitamins and iron that is fast acting. Seems to help me concentrate better when I'm playing poker online. A shot of Gerital and one Klono is the good poker game combination.
