RE: Western union payments - Sudsy - 01-03-2018 Just make a transfer the other day, 1st time I have ever been asked to show my D/L and on top of that they also make a copy of it. I have been going to the same place for years, the gal who I know very well said this was the new rule, now I don't know if this is a WU new rule or the place I am going to I did not ask at that point, but either way I do not like it. Hey Sudsy there are quite a few threads going on this but yeah both WU and MG started this about year ago. I have had it happen to me not every time and it depends on the place you go. Peace Fury RE: Western union payments - Sunglassesron - 01-04-2018 MG in the UK have been doing it for years. Had to do a couple of payments through WU today what a pain they are RE: Western union payments - masterthief - 01-06-2018 So most WU places won't require an ID to order magazines if you're there in person and pay cash? RE: Western union payments - Sudsy - 01-10-2018 Thank You Furyan66 and Sunglassesron. Sudsy RE: Western union payments - James Atherton - 01-10-2018 From my experience the key to staying safe and minimizing the risk of losing money is patience and prudence. Whenever I have been victim to a fake vendor, it usually comes about because I want to make one big purchase of magazines instead of making continued smaller purchases. If you truly treat this process like a pharmacy and not try and buy a years subscription when all you really need is a 30-90 supply, your chances of loss are greatly reduced. RE: Western union payments - Richardg8092 - 01-15-2018 I use WU on line - where they can't ask for my D/L - instead they charge me a very hefty fee to draw the money out of my bank account, on top of their other transfer fees. I always seem to have to add on an extra few dollars too, because their exchange rates don't match any one else's (always in WU's favour, of course). However, them's the breaks. I use WU (often, but not always) to get the reading material that I require. Experience has taught me that I might see a magazine with $1:50 printed on the cover, but by the time I allow for currency conversion + freight + WU fees.... $1:50 quickly becomes $2 or more. Despite the fact that it means handing over more of my hard earned cash to WU, I tend to agree with James' 90 day reading rule too. Although I must admit to feeling happier when I can see an extra 90 days worth sitting on the bookshelf waiting for me to get to them. Is that hoarding? I don't think so. It's more a case of allowing for a rainy day!

A lot of people have problems with WU/MG online. They call you and ask a bunch of questions that most of us don't want to answer. I have found that if you attach your bank account info and create an account with the wire company, then it's much easier. It's just the initial wires where they are very suspicious..especially international transfers. And yeah, they charge you an arm, leg, and even a testicle or two for the transfer fees. RE: Western union payments - Sudsy - 04-05-2018 Now my WU place has gone paperless, so much for keeping a low profile. They take you over to this little cube and you sit across from each other and do your transfer. Sudsy RE: Western union payments - schmok - 04-05-2018 Made a few transfers with MG online which always resulted in a phone conversation... never had the transfers cancelled but I can see how the whole experience can be a bit intimidating. |
