RE: Moneygram - wolverine719 - 02-19-2018 Okay thanks for the info! I have been using BTC recently because it's least amount of work but I wanted to try these options out. RE: Moneygram - Iloveaparade - 02-28-2018 I just recently had issues with both WU and MG. MG security team called me just after I sent money online. Asked questions about me, my birth date, etc.. then asked questions about the receiver, how I know them, have we ever met in person, what the money was for... I said that it was for a friend that needed help and we had met online. They canceled the transaction right then. I believe if I said I had met them in person they would have let the transaction proceed. So, I received an email that asked me to go in person to a MG brick and morter. I paid in cash and received a receipt with no problem. Yes, I had to provide an ID. I'm glad I did too because later that day i received an email form the vendor saying there was an issue. MG cancelled the second transaction too. I was able to go back to the store, provide my ID and get all of my money back. If i had used a false name i would have been out of luck. I called MG to ask why both transactions had been denied and they said vaguely that red flags are sometimes set off and they were not giving an exact reason. That was my experience recently with MG.I have made multiple, smaller transactions to a different country and vendor with no issues. My recent experience with WU (same vendor and country as above)... in the middle of the online transaction a screen popped up with the phone number of my credit card company. It asked me to call the number of my credit card company and I had to verbally provide authorization to proceed. The credit card company agent asked my secret password and saw the transaction process on her end. At that time I was texted a passcode to finalize the transaction with WU and receive a reference # from WU. I am still waiting to hear back from the vendor to see if they were able to complete the transaction on their end. Whew! I hope that my description of my recent experience can be found helpful to somebody. Have a great day! RE: Moneygram - MCS1964 - 04-03-2018 I haven't done MG for a long time. Do I just need name of recipient and country? That's all I got from a vendor. Thanks, MCS RE: Moneygram - Charon - 04-03-2018 listen, i haven't used them in years and years. but let me PM u. RE: Moneygram - KayaMan002 - 04-04-2018 All i can tell you is that theres absolutely nothing to worry about with D, greatest ever!! I gotta be honest in saying ive never used any electronic payments online to anyone. WU is getting more difficult, but you must go there, dont ever do it over the phone. It will work, you just need to find the right place. Im not even sure if bitcoins or whatever are even an option. But never use MG, they are the nosiest, they ask questions about your immediate family, its just not really an option. I tried MG simply to send money to my sister, i got fed up with them after all the inappropriate questions, and basically told them to forget it.. i would contact your seller, see what all your options are is my opinion. Hope some of this helps. Regards all, J RE: Moneygram - Zander - 04-04-2018 Meh...I have no use for MoneyGram..They ask too many questions and are a pain in the arse.? RE: Moneygram - Rafterman - 04-07-2018 In my experience, MG used to be less nosey, but more expensive. They have since lowered their charges on some of their services, while at the same time becoming more nosey. My wife uses her vacation time from nursing to travel to different countries as a medical missionary. She has been to something like 20 countries since the 1980's. She invariably makes friends with some of the poor people she ministers to and will occasionally send them a small monetary gift on their birthday. The amount of people has added up, as have the number of different countries that she MG's to. So imagine the clerk working the counter where we do our MG's. We have been going there for about 12 years. Same guy every time. Knows us like we are in his family. Has helped us MG to a dozen different countries. Yet even he started asking questions about 2 years ago. Unless the person who were are MG'ing has a very White sounding name and lives in Western Europe, it's open season. RE: Moneygram - G.Elias - 04-09-2018 Not sure i would want to be giving up passwords over the phone, never been asked that, usually my bank (dont know about a CC company) makes a point of usually saying they will never ask for info like that. I gave up on MG when they brought in the ID only when using them to send funds. Also realised they were more expensive than the other one. Luckily never had either phoning me asking all those questions that some have mentioned. RE: Moneygram - Chinchillin777 - 06-17-2018 MG has cost me several hundred dollars on two occasions, relating to a vendor that I would otherwise rate as A+++. My understanding is that sometimes the courier in charge of collecting the payment can pocket some of all of the cash and report back to their boss that you never made a payment at all. In respect to the times I was scammed, it was exclusively via MG, otherwise I have had numerous positive transactions with said vendor, there has never been any issue in regard to any other method of payment, yet on the only two occasions I used MG with the vendor, I was ripped off both times. Suffice to say, I try to avoid it. RE: Moneygram - LilRaquel - 09-22-2018 I’ve used the online version of MG without issue. They will interrogate you on the phone when you do your first transaction. I believe it’s just an Identity verification as they asked questions similar to results of any online background check. It took 20 minutes and since then, smooth sailing. I use them often for my business in procuring handloomed fabrics. Many of my fabric sellers are family run and not even incorporated businesses in India and China. They prefer MG as they like the USD and most don’t have bank accounts. One of my silk loomers said that certain shops are handing out actual green USD$ and they believe it has more value. |
