RE: Effective sleeping pills - Noelb98 - 11-22-2018 Thanks F.W.D.! My parents take Clonidine for blood pressure. I will just have to track down some trazadone. Does this combo ever give you weird nightmares? RE: Effective sleeping pills - F.W.D - 11-22-2018 (11-22-2018, 06:08 PM)Noelb98 Wrote: Thanks F.W.D.! My parents take Clonidine for blood pressure. Maybe quite playing those violent video games and watching horror movie, definitely dont watch the news on television, and not much if any caffeine late in the evening. your MD should be okay with prescribing you trazadone. it's a popular sleep aide with doctors right now RE: Effective sleeping pills - F.W.D - 11-23-2018 (11-22-2018, 08:48 PM)Audrey Hepburn Wrote: Trazadone is also an antidepressant, so be sure you are ok with ADs before starting on one. You are absolutely right Ms Hepburn. ultimately we are all responsible for our own health. When a DR give me a prescription I have not had before and it says 1 pill twice a day I do an allergy check, lik half a pill first day then two halves the second day. I've also learned that the honest you can be with your DR, the more willing and able they are to help you. that's just my opinion RE: Effective sleeping pills - Wannabenormal18 - 11-29-2018 It’s worth mentioning that tolerance to halcion builds so fast. It’s a joke. I got up to swallowing 30 tabs a night just to feel a little sleepy. Insane. Is there any trick to make trazadone work for sleep? I took 50 mg and no joke, only thing I got was an involuntary erection that went away pretty quickly. I’m glad it wasn’t a priapism which needed hospital treatment. This is a known side effect. I’m so desperate for sleep though. RE: Effective sleeping pills - MrFussbudget - 12-19-2018 I think you can take 150 mg (I had tabs that were 150 and I’d break them in half because although the higher dose helped I was having side effects that were bothersome like a bad taste in my mouth all the time and dry mouth and skin dryness.) Over the counter doxylamine succinate works well and tolerated better than typical antihistamines. All depends on your body chemistry and sleep habits. Honestly, the things you do before you go to bed greatly dictate how you will sleep. Phones away from bed, no computer for 30 min before all that I'm sure you have heard, but very effective. Calm room, no clutter, low light. Fan or sound machine and then of course meds at the end. If Zolpidem works for you, then the closest to that if you do not have that would be doxylamine succinate for over the counter. Benzo's seem to be too much for long term use.In a select few of people Valarian Root has been found to have the opposite effect. If you suspect that might be the case try a little trial and error. It is rare, but has been documented. Doxylamine succinate is an excellent otc option. It is the active ingredient in the most common sleep aid. That sleep aid comes in 2 different active ingredients, so be sure to choose that one. Many have found the other active ingredient to feel like their heart is racing. It is also the common active ingredient in many otc sleep meds. Be sure to choose doxylamine succinate. Buy the generic version. It is much cheaper! RE: Effective sleeping pills - User1242 - 01-18-2019 Good ol' OTC Benadryl and some melatonin can help. Finding the right dosage is a bit tricky but it has helped me get a few hours of sleep when I'm out of sleep meds. Benedryl will make me sleepy, but then I just lay there feeling sleepy and still not sleeping. Sometimes it helps if I'm VERY sleep deprived. I miss ambien. All the good iop sources are either gone or out of stock and it's getting so hard to get a script for it anymore... (and the SY peeps are just so expensive.) Mirtazapine helps, so does the supplement Calm (the one with melatonin, gaba, theanine and magnesium.) But really they just helps me stay asleep longer. I still struggle FALLING asleep. RE: Effective sleeping pills - Laxfinity - 01-19-2019 I have been taking etiz0lam for years. I only take half and I am asleep within 30 minutes. There is nothing else that has worked like it has... and I have tried everything across the board before I found it. I just refuse to take it nightly and will try to supplement with natural items as listed above. Good luck all. I truly hope you find something that works for you.
