Alcohol - iNsom - 11-21-2015 Hey folks, Any other drinkers out there? I drink alcohol now and again, I'm not an alcoholic but I do sometimes drink to excess. I'd say on average I drink twice a week, usually on a Friday and / or a Saturday and sometimes a weeknight. I have such a love/hate relationship with alcohol right now! I love the taste of a nice cold pint, I love the feeling of having absolutely no anxiety (albeit temporarily) I love how social it makes everyone......etc, etc. I hate "the fear" the next day, I hate how easy a £/$/€ 50 night can turn into a £/$/€ 200 night, I hate the fact that it's extremely unhealthy......etc, etc. I've been contemplating stopping drinking altogether. I think that would definitely be beneficial when I eventually do start to taper off Diazepam. The rebound anxiety a hangover brings can be crippling for me and sometimes means I end up having to have a whole 10mg Diazepam tablet the morning after and another in the afternoon, rather than my usual half (5mg) in the morning and afternoon. That's probably what I hate the most about it! So yeah, just a random topic to see other peoples thoughts on the beautiful, evil alcohol. RE: Alcohol - Ivortheenginedriver - 11-21-2015 I used to enjoy social drinking a lot until I had a family, now it is rare. Unfortunately I also have a close loved one who is an alcoholic, and my father was an alcoholic most of my life, and that has turned me off of drinking a bit too. So while I enjoy social drinking, beer, maybe some shots on a special occasion, taking care of a drunk loved one and trying to get her off of the sauce (which is one of the things that brought me to sites like this) has unfortunately soured me on it I do have to say if it wasn't for drinking I would have never met my wife and had my kids, who are the only good thing in my life, but then again since our relationship started off in bars it might explain why our marriage sucks most of the time. Hope that wasn't all too off topic. And yes, when I went out to drink it always ended up costing a lot more than I meant for it too. Once the good times start rolling its hard to stop them, cant count the times in my younger years that I went out for a beer with friends and ended up broke. I always found the best hangover cure for me was MJ in the morning, water and Tylenol the night before. but since the brain processes Benzos and Alcohol so similarly, Diazepam makes sense as a hangover cure. Just be careful, drink lots of water, don't start drinking alone, and as long as your talking about pints of brew and not whiskey I am sure you will be fine. Sorry for the long post, hope it was not too off topic. RE: Alcohol - iNsom - 11-21-2015 Not off topic at all, it actually sums up why alcohol is both beautiful and evil. Besides, we're in the "off topic" lounge. Sorry to hear about the problems your loved ones have had with alcohol. What is MJ? Yes, I mean pints of beer haha- although when out with family and friends all those double vodkas probably add up to a pint :-0 RE: Alcohol - Ivortheenginedriver - 11-24-2015 (11-21-2015, 05:10 PM)Insomnia_Sucks Wrote: Not off topic at all, it actually sums up why alcohol is both beautiful and evil.MJ is a nickname for Peter Parkers girlfriend, Mary Jane, which is also a nickname for, well I assume you understand by now.  Have a bowl and then a hearty breakfast, at least that's what I used to do. Depends how bad you're stomach ails you but that was my ritual. RE: Alcohol - atomheartmother - 12-06-2015 Alcohol trashed my house last night. But that could be the result of having around eighty people over. My head is pounding and someone broke the headstock off of my '63 Gibson SG special. I better get to cleaning, got to do it all over again next week. Does anyone want to clean? I need the help. Oh God! Good luck! I know the feeling... I used to spend my entire Sunday's cleaning what Alcohol did on the Saturday. RE: Alcohol - iNsom - 12-07-2015 Well done on quitting elpdc10! 23 years is, Just WOW! Never give into them voices! Sorry to hear about your father! Such a shame. RE: Alcohol - atad3 - 12-09-2015 I may have a few beers when out with friends a few times a month. Gone are the days of getting hammers at parties and bars for me though. I've slowed down quite a bit since I became a parent. I've never really had a problem refusing alcohol though. I have some family that struggles with alcoholism and luckily I've never really had the same affinity for drinks like that.. RE: Alcohol - iNsom - 12-10-2015 Another thing about alcohol: I think we (in the UK) generally drink more than people in the US. I don't think it helps that we're basically legally allowed to drink at any age as long as we're in the company of our guardian. We can legally drink on our own at 18. We've introduced 24 hour alcohol licenses in England. But I think the main factor is the weather, we can't socialise much outside because it's usually raining so where do you meet your friends? - At the bar. RE: Alcohol - iNsom - 12-10-2015 Hey Audrey! That's interesting (the weather part) I've always been interested in weather in different parts of the world but I never knew there were areas in the US that were like the UK. I knew most places got cold in the winter and warm/ hot in the summer but never realised some places have '8 month winters' like us. I guess it makes sense as the US covers a lot of area North to South. Some places in the UK don't get 8 month winters (London for example) can get quite hot summers at 30oC plus (mid 80's to mid 90's in farenheite) and their winters, like their summers last about 3 months. So they enjoy a mild spring and Autumn too. Basically they get normal seasons haha. But where I'm from, a lot further North, we're lucky to get 18oC in summer (about 65oF) Our summer is normally about 14oc - 17oc (high 50's to low 60's in fahrenheit), cloudy, windy and often wet and like you lasts the majority of the year. Our summers last about 6 weeks, no joke! I visited Phoenix and Vegas in summer a few years back, I'd love their weather! |
