Controlled Meds Scripts - nitelifer - 05-21-2016

Lets say your doctor has you on 1 mg a day of Xanax and gives you two prescriptions for the next two months.  so you go back in a couple weeks and you manage to get him to raise it to 1.5 mg a day, he gives you a new script and you go fill it. But you still have one paper prescription at home for a months worth of Xanax 1 mg a day.  Well, in Florida this script for 1 mg a day is useless to me, I can never fill it now because Ive filled a new script from this doctor for 1.5 mg a month and will be taking that dosage from now on. All the pharmacies in Florida have access to any scripts I've filled in the last 30 days. Is there any way to get it filled or just throw it out? thanks in advance

You prescription should be valid for a year. Don't think you can fill them both. Insurance is usually your biggest issue as they will want to call your doctor and confirm the second script in a month.

All the pharmacies in Florida have access to any script you've filled? Are you serious? No way. I think that only applies to higher scheduled medications. If it's true that sounds like a serious invasion of privacy for anyone in the state to be able to pull up your medical info like that. I'm sure there are some more people who know a good bit more about how things work in Florida specifically and can weigh in.

for controlled meds like xanax every pharmacy knows i filled a script for it less than 30 days before, all of them, even the mom and pop pharmacies, at least here in florida thats how it is. my doc will continue into the indefinite future to prescribe me xanax 1.5 mg a day every month but now i have an extra paper script for a month of xanax 1 mg a day and no way to fill it. i thought maybe some people send their scripts to Canada pharmacies or something. I dont know, just a thought otherwise ill hang onto it until it expires and then toss it.

You could possibly go to a pharmacy you haven't been to before, say you have no insurance and you may be able to get it filled. It will be the full cost of the script so this is your option, but there isn't a way to fill two scripts of the same med with insurance.
I am not saying go out and do this, I am just saying it *could* be an option, I am not 100% sure and if you are good with your Dr. I'd maybe just hang onto it, or just toss it since you will be getting your 1.5 daily without issues each month. It's possible that if you go fill it off insurance they call your Dr. and then knows that you are trying to fill an old script, and then that would be seen as drug seeking in some peoples eyes.
Best of luck in everything!

If it were me......why take the chance? I would toss it. But again that is just my humble opinion.

Welcome to the age of computers....

All your info is stored and the pharmacies are required to use it...

In the "mom and pop" days, you could go to multiple docs and use multiple pharms... Those days have since been all but rubbed out... Notice there are only like CVS... Walgreens... Walmart.... Kmart... No more "Joes Pharmacy" just the major corps... That way they can better "manage" your medicine... Make sure you won't get too much...

You more than likely won't be able to get it filled anywhere at this point in time... Only if you're taking a med say for a week ..10 days... And doc writes you the same thing, just stronger... Then they'll fill it, but not for the same dose or even less...

Just sayin...

Pharmacies are required to upload info on tightly controlled dispensed prescriptions to a statewide database--names, dates, etc. Not only will your insurance know (if you have insurance and the pharmacy attempts to apply coverage), but physicians are able to download this information on when, what, and to whom something was dispensed, mainly their own patients.

But wait, there's more! Some states allow physicians in others to tap their database. Assuming the physician knows which state to which to inquire, they'd find out whether or not you filled the extra prescription.

Man the Gov., is everywhere..its getting rather difficult to get anything with pcs everywhere and database looking at everything. And the Docs gets extremly more scared to make scripts and refills. Sad

If you have a Costco by you, you can take it there and pay cash.  If you pay cash, no insurance involved!
