The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it, along with international authorities, has formally sought to suspend 4,402 websites that illegally sell potentially dangerous, counterfeit or unapproved prescription drugs to U.S. consumers.
The move is part of a global effort being led by the INTERPOL, the world's largest police organization, to identify the makers and distributors of illegal prescription drugs.

The FDA said its Office of Criminal Investigations, Office of Regulatory Affairs, and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research were part of the enforcement action, which ran from May 31 to June 7.

The FDA and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspected international mail facilities (IMFs), and then sent formal complaints to domain registrars requesting the suspension of the 4,402 websites, the U.S. health regulator said.

In addition, the FDA said it has also issued warning letters to operators of 53 websites that illegally sell unapproved and misbranded prescription drug products to U.S. consumers.
The FDA said it and other federal agencies screened and seized illegal drug products received through IMFs in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.
These screenings resulted in the detention of 797 parcels which, if found in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, will be refused entry into the country and destroyed, the FDA added.

Preliminary findings from these screening showed U.S. consumers had purchased certain unapproved drug products from abroad to treat depression, narcolepsy, high cholesterol, glaucoma, and asthma, among other conditions.

Damn those degenerate U.S. consumers who are looking for relief.

"The FDA said its Office of Criminal Investigations, Office of Regulatory Affairs, and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research were part of the enforcement action, which ran from May 31 to June 7."

Went to a talk by "Mike Levine" years ago.  He wrote a classic, full title " Deep Cover, The Inside Story of How DEA Infighting, Incompetence and Subterfuge Lost Us the Biggest Battle of the Drug War."  Mr. Levine was instrumental in bringing down the Medellin cartel--many cartels ago, but it was the big one then. His revelations revelke the Keysone Cops approach to the drug war.  One real point he made though, is contemporary.  These bureaus, these overlapping and miscommunicating entities have to find or manufacture credibility for their existence.  Sometimes, for the DEA he said, they simply staged phony raids.
To keep getting a check, they have to appear they are doing something.  They have found a huge trough they can all feed from.  Other issues obviously enter in, media perpetuated fear, and ignorance and government and media propelled stupidity.   Others reasons too, lots having with history so old it's become a part of our DNA.

But a big part of it is the massive, collective agency Bulldog who has gotten his teeth into it, and will continue to grow as useless, "overlook" govt entities begin pumping out grand stories of heroism and success, to keep themselves in business.

Coming Ad:  "If you're not hurting, then you're not American!"

Thanks for the information and post Icollect

I don't understand how Operation IX was able to pass without indications of total chaos showing up here? Having followed a variety of related forums over the years the impact of this Operation usually dominates the discussion for weeks on end!!!

I am not addicted to a pill, I am scared of pain.  I don't think they get it.  Pain is the worst symptom of many diseases.  It is hard to believe that they would frame the debate around the pill, not treating the patient.  Time for a change to rational policies that facilitate patient care, including palliative relief without judgment.  When you are in pain, you just want to be normal.  There is nothing suspicious about that.

But so many IOPs register their domain names with secure registrars in countries that don't much care what the USA says. Even if it is a .com an IOP can just move in the same way that torrent sites have been hopping around the internet whenever their domain is seized.

Besides, that's only the domain. I just queried what a popular IOP's address resolves to and got the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address. Just checked it and it takes me straight to the site. I guess it might be an issue where multiple sites are run off the same server (I do that, but that's just for family photos and a hobby website - not running a business, let alone IOP!).

This will just be the same wack-a-mole they've had with the torrent sites. I guess it makes it a bit harder for the casual student looking to buy ritalin for their exams, but that's about it I would think.

I bet 97% of the sites are scam sites anyways.
