Drug sniffing dogs - Hollywoodjimbo - 08-17-2016 I hope I'm putting this in the best possible place for some good answers. Here's my dilemma: I live in my 23ft travel trailer up in the beautiful mountains of California but it gets cold as Minnesota here in the winter. I'm thinking of caravaning to Yuma Arizona for the winter, $180 gets you a pass valid for 6 months. At various spots along the way they have Border Patrol checkpoints with dogs trained to sniff out humans, I'm guessing illegal if they're hiding, but they're also trained to sniff out weed, meth, heroin, etc. I have searched and searched and cannot find out if they can sniff out alps. I don't do any of those other things so that's not an issue. Anyone have any info on this? I think we all know their priority is revenue generation and not finding the rare illegal hidin in my trailers bathtub! Arizona even bragged that if they find one seed, you're going down for possession! I'm thinking of packaging Dusko style and having it sent to my po box the same day I get there, via priority mail and sent by someone I trust. I'll do all the work a put it in one of those big priority mail envelopes and according to what I've read, bingo! There it is 2-3 days later. No customs to clear, just one of millions of internal US mail pieces. Fake return address, fake senders name and I think I'll be good. Thoughts? Opinions? Any info would be appreciated! Peace! RE: Drug sniffing dogs - IceWizard - 08-18-2016 I would invest in a "seal-A-meal" vaccum ... After you seal your whatever, you can wash the outside with mild soap and warm water to remove any trace scents your hands may have deposited... The sealed contents will no longer have anyway to be "sniffed out" ... If they can't smell it... They can't tell it... Ice RE: Drug sniffing dogs - Hollywoodjimbo - 08-18-2016 Thanks Ice! That had not occurred to me! Gonna get me one. Brilliant! Peace! RE: Drug sniffing dogs - shellshocked - 08-18-2016 (08-18-2016, 02:43 PM)Hollywoodjimbo Wrote: Thanks Ice! Always use a real Address with matching zip code , doesn't have to be yours .( local Real Estate co. with advertising enclosed ) and mail from a drop box close to the address you use. Be safe RE: Drug sniffing dogs - Spanky - 08-18-2016 (08-18-2016, 09:48 PM)shellshocked Wrote:Well, like Jimbo, I travel. There goes my thick-walled pvc idea. No challenge, but can you tell me how you came by the idea of the failure of thick walled PVC? Now, as I have seen on TV--and maybe said here--aiirport sniffing dogs have a high failure rate when it comes to false positives. They have been trained to sniff out lots of stuff, but the airport dogs were also very good at sniffing out "Snausages" and the like, not "de" sensitized to that. Maybe a few open cans of empty Vienna sausage cans, some jerky still in the package here and there. Think in another direction?(08-18-2016, 02:43 PM)Hollywoodjimbo Wrote: Thanks Ice! I think I'm going with Ices vacuum plan combined with the Dusko method, in a envelope, those that can hold an entire magazine. No customs inside USA plus unlike ups and FedEx, the usps cannot open overnight, priority and there were a few other things they can't open without a warrant and probable cause. I get a lot of priority stuff mailed to me by family members from California and just got one today from Texas, baked apple muffins from my sister, delish! My point is if it looks and smells normal it's just another piece of mail out of the millions and millions of daily mail, they just want to keep it moving cuz tomorrow there's 300 million more to ship! Honestly, who's going to give a priority mail the size of a magazine going from one state to another, unless it reeks like some killer new genetically modified blow your mind marijuana that you can smell the next zip code over, I don't smoke the whacky tobaccy anyway, I'm just talkin 'bout sending myself some alps. I don't mind driving around locally (just picked some up today from ppe, regular airmail from you all know where and no problem) I'm just not comfortable knowing I'll have to drive through one or more Nazi checkpoints where they just ask you if you have any fruits or vegetables, haha, it would be funny if it wasn't true and we no longer have any constitutional protection against unlawful search and seizure or the ability to travel in my own country without fearing the cops more than criminals. We know who the real criminals are and they wear nice uniforms, carry nice loaded handguns and have a badge. End of rant! Kind of forgot how I even got so far into the rant! Haha, I'm just an old guy who wants to be left alone. Peace! The Dude RE: Drug sniffing dogs - Spanky - 08-19-2016 Read once in a real book of amazing stuff, that a dog, any dog, can sniff one drop of urine in a swimming pool. Well, that make sense because dog brains are mainly committed to smell, unlike ours which are dedicated to sight. When dogs were still all wolves they used smell to mark, so it no surprise the have a strong sense of smell, for urine. And therefore can be trained to learn other smells to track, detect, etc. But detecting smells learned over hours, even hundreds of hours can't be the same as pee. The can't be super dogs on everything from alps to blueberries. I figure maybe I could put something in a small steel tube, then cast it in a small cement block, then maybe a steel case. Or maybe just have my entire RV encased in cement, load it on the a railroad car, and send it on. Buts it out when it gets there, that would probably be easiest. America must have something better to do. Spank RE: Drug sniffing dogs - shellshocked - 08-23-2016 Jimbo Re info from my previous post this is where it came from , part of a larger document. Just trying to help SS Postal inspectors use these criteria to identify packages that might contain drugs. Package Criteria * Emits odors of marijuana or or a masking agent (e.g., coffee, perfume, fabric-softener sheets) * Is heavily taped along seams * Is poorly prepared for mailing * Appears to have been re-used * Has an uneven weight distribution Label Criteria * Is handwritten * Contains misspelled names, streets, or cities * Originates from a drug source State * Has been sent from an individual to an individual * Contains return address ZIP code that does not match accepting post office ZIP code * Shows a fictitious return address * Lists sender's and/or receiver's names of common type (e.g., John Smith) that are not connected to either address RE: Drug sniffing dogs - relaxme - 09-01-2016 For what I understand, dogs can only smell it if the "air" pass the element, no air left the med, dogs can simple not smell it. like IceWizard told you "seal-A-meal" vaccum is a great idea. RE: Drug sniffing dogs - Raven - 09-03-2016 Jimbo: It has been reported that even when an average family dog walks into the kitchen when you are cooking beef stew, that dog does not just smell beef stew. The dog can smell each individual ingredient in the stew, the beef, the carrots, onions, celery, potatoes, tomatoes, turnips, beans, each individual spice, salt, pepper, and whatever else you have added to your recipe. Sniffer dogs are typically trained to detect illegal narcotic drugs, however, they can be trained to detect most anything, including lower schedule legal drugs. So, the risk you have identified is, in fact, a reality. If you have a friend willing to work with you, then I would go the Priority Mail route myself. Interstate mailing would not even appear on anyone's radar. Given the contamination risks associated with handling and packing a plastic bag for transport, don't fool yourself into believing that a vacuum bag will keep the dogs at bay. Finally, keep in mind that, should you run across a checkpoint, LE is going to be more diligent in terms of travelers moving away from a border state, as opposed to travelers moving into a border state. I live in a border state way up here in the northeast, thank God we don't have to deal with this kind of crap (yet). Raven |
