2016 Election: Donald Trump Wins the White House in Upset! - IceWizard - 11-09-2016

2016 ELECTION DAY
NOV 9 2016, 2:50 AM ET

by DANIEL ARKIN

In a forceful rebuke of the American politica establishment, Donald J. Trump on Tuesday was elected the 45th president of the United States, NBC News projects. His improbable win followed one of the most wildly unpredictable and bitter campaigns in the nation's history.

Trump, the billionaire real estate developer and reality TV star, defeated former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton in a stunning upset, running the table in battleground states across the country — from Florida and North Carolina to Ohio and Pennsylvania.

He declared victory Tuesday night before a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, pledging to help unite the country after his rancorous battle with Clinton.

"I say it is time for us to come together as one united people," Trump said at the Midtown Hilton in New York City. He said he congratulated Clinton on a "very, very hard- fought campaign."

Clinton called Trump sometime after 2 a.m. ET to concede the race, he told supporters.

Clinton will not address supporters on Tuesday night, her campaign chairman John Podesta said.

Trump, 70, triumphed across the South, Plains and the Rust Belt, where the Republican candidate's volatile mix of economic populism and freewheeling bravado resonated with millions of white working-class voters alienated by globalization and cultural change.

Clinton, 69, who entered Election Day with a modest lead in most national polls, failed to maintain her narrow advantage in crucial states like Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She carried traditional Democratic strongholds along the Northeast and the West, earning her at least 218 electoral votes.

President-elect Trump will be the first person to win the White House without having held elected office or served in the U.S. armed forces.

His unexpected success delays, for now, the election of the first woman Commander in Chief — a distinction Clinton had long hoped to earn.

Here's the current tally, according to NBC News projections:

** Clinton wins:
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine (three of four electoral votes), Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington state and Washington, D.C.

**Trump wins:
Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida (apparent winner), Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska (four of five electoral votes), North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

**Too close to call:
Arizona, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota and New Hampshire.

In a parallel storyline, Republicans will retain control of the Senate and the House of Representatives, NBC News projects.

As millions of Americans cast their ballots Tuesday, early exit polls showed that large majorities of voters had an unfavorable view of both Trump and Clinton.

About six in 10 voters — 61 percent — said they had an unfavorable view of the real estate mogul, while only 37 percent viewed him favorably.

A majority of voters — 54 percent — said they had an unfavorable view of the former secretary of state, and another 44 percent viewed her favorably.

The numbers appeared to underscore one of the driving themes of an unusually divisive campaign:

Both candidates are astoundingly unpopular.

Heading into Election Day, Clinton held a narrow advantage, leading Trump by 4 points in the last NBC/Wall Street Journal poll taken before Tuesday.

Does anyone have a sense yet of how, if at all, the new administration will affect drug laws? My understanding is that Trump takes a pretty hard line on these matters. Hopefully I am wrong!

I don't know about how he sees the good ole D3A , but I do know he is a businessman first and formost ... That being said, there is BIG MONEY to be made with "certain" crops and big tax dollars to be made indeed ...

So maybe, he'll take a good look at the Colorado "experiment" and get on the money train at the national level ...

We can only hope ....

I've also heard he has investments in a few pharmaceutical company's, so HOPEFULLY he will get them to ease up on prescription drugs. Especially many of them that are BIG money makers, hint hint.
Who knows? Money talks and I hope that talks to him.

I'll keep my little fingers crossed that he will get things turned around in this country, but I'll believe it when I see it. Get a little "gun shy" from all the lies we always hear from government.

But we just have to wait and see if it was all smoke and mirrors before we'll be dancing in the streets .... Who would know ... Even forgien leaders are wondering what the heck will come outt aWashington now that he's pullin the strings Wink

I'm hoping he will actually start things moving in a better direction. I know he's no angel, none of them are, but we gotta give it a chance. I pray we haven't been bamboozled again and that he is NOT a part of the big evil machine that's had ahold of this country for way too long. I think we're all a little afraid of the unknown with him, but we all know (or should know) that things would not change for the better with another Clinton. Nothing good would come outta her winning.

What I find interesting is, everyone is in a big uproar over Trump's advances towards women, which is not good I know. But has everyone forgotten all that Bill Clinton did? Come on, he gets a free pass? No one did anything about that other than embarrass him on national tv.

What a screwed up world this is.

But why are so many just Cryin' in the streets?  Maybe their free ride is over? I really would like to see positive change for America! But it may come with some being very unhappy the middle class has decided to stop paying for their laziness. I have worked hard for more than 45 yrs and would love to soon retire. Not wealthy or even have a padded life style.

They're probably cryin' cause the ?person? they've been brainwashed into believing was the best for the job, got the old heave ho. They must be those that have no clue of the Clinton history or just don't care.

If I had to put my trust in Hil throwing me a life vest if I were drowning, I'd rather drown. She can't be trusted, even more so than the many other criminals within our government. Too many Americans are oblivious to the many shady deals and bodies left in the Clinton's wake. They have been evil for a very long time and don't care because anything they have done is always covered up by their cronies. Well ain't karma a bitch?
Hillary losing this election is gettin' off easy compared to what the 2 of them really deserve.

Sorry if I offend any Clinton fans, but you need to do some homework on them and the MANY things they have been accused of. When there's that much smoke, there has to be one hell of a fire. But up until now, their little buddies have worked very hard to hide that fire. Maybe that fire just got to be too much for them to keep covering up.

Their ship has gone down. Clinton's - the Titanic and Trump the iceberg. Bye bye Hilbillies. Big Grin

Loads of my US friends are upset about Trump. Not so much that Hillary didn't win - most felt she was the wrong candidate for all kinds of reasons - but more about Trump's racism, sexism, etc. From outside the USA there is a lot of emphasis on his personality as erratic and him having authoritarian tendencies (I mean that in the psychological sense of the word, obviously he's not in office yet so we can't know).

I've heard a lot about hate crimes following the Trump win - I was glad to hear him condemn it. My friend's neighbour suggested that there would be a spike in hate crimes and then it would go back to the usual level. But then what is an acceptable amount of hate crime or prejudice?

It's sad to see America so divided. It really isn't good for a country to pull so far apart.

Remember after the brexit hate crimes were up here in the Uk,just over half voted leave, just under remain, seems we have even more in common with the US now, being a divided nation, but a lot of misinformation was puked out by many, mainly anti immigrant info, remember the Farage poster ad that seemed dubious or just out right hate towards immigrants.
all this talk of it being a vote against the establishment is rubbish,Farage-ex city of London banking merchant, loaded,Trump multibillionairre-loaded,hardly anti-establishment.
Be the same old game, thats how the elite want it,on their terms not ours,1% dictate and stay unimaginably rich to 99% and whos everyday life will still be struggle.
One day a decent party will get formed that is not backed by media mogels like Murdoch,we might start to see a better world,i fear i wont be around by the time that happens and this old network of the rich elite will crumble if its not torn apart.
