PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) — New York state prosecutors say a New Jersey couple funded their extravagant lifestyle of luxury cars and shopping sprees with credit cards stolen from a Long Island post office where one of the pair worked.

Prosecutors announced Wednesday that a 28-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both of Perth Amboy, have been charged with identity theft and forgery, among other charges. NJ.com reports the man, a letter carrier, is accused of stealing credit cards addressed to people on his postal route.

The Nassau District Attorney's office says the suspects activated the cards by buying cardholders' personal information on the dark web using the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

The thefts were discovered when the cardholders in Garden City, N.Y. complained they had not received them.

It's crazy enough that someone would do this, but what's wild is thinking they could get away with it.
