There will prob be a lot of questions but in an effort to not write a novel I will give the spark notes version.
I went w my GF to Hawaii for vacation. Within 12hrs of touching down, I was in the ER for 7-9 days.
I was diagnosed with E-coli poisoning, Sepsis, and Noro Virus. It was the closest thing to a living hell I could imagine.
While in the hospital they found my Ejection Fraction rate (I may have that backward) the amount of blood your heart is able to pump. I was as low as 30% while sick and climbed back up to 35-37% right now.
Just had an angiogram last Monday. I have to go in this am for my consult with the surgeon to find out when they are going to perform open heart surgery. My guess is ASAP so sometime this week.
They found 5-6 blockages up to 90% blockage. I know this is urgent and I thought they'd prob get me in last week after I came out of my Angiogram the way it sounded.
I guess they remove arteries from other places in my body to use in my heart. If it's anything like the pain I felt for a week after they did the angiogram since they go in through an artery, well then I'm freaking out.
Mind you I'm a 38 year old male in fantastic shape on the outside. Single-digit body fat percentages, train 2-3x per day including cardio. Anyone who has looked at me has pretty much said "This can't be yours" referring to the testing results but it most definitely is.
Two things I wanted to convey:
Don't neglect your health & do blood work. You need to know what's going on. If I hadn't gotten food poisoning id prob never have known any of this and would be dead within 2 years max.
I'm freaking out. I know the recovery time is going to be 6-8 weeks if all goes well.
I own a business and cant be out of work that long even though I know I have no choice. Luckily I have a kick ass staff I can count on to keep things going. However, Im freaking out that I'm going to be stuck on my back for up to 2 months. The gym is my zen-happy place. I don't know what Im going to do.
Thank God I have an amazing GF who has been a lifesaver and stuck by my side for every inch of this.
Thank you for listening to my rant. Please know you are not invincible. Do your blood work and make sure you know whats going on inside your body. Be proactive not reactive to live the longest and highest quality of life possible.
