1 Peter 4:14

14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ,
you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Today's Prayer...

Lord our God,
in the grace of Jesus Christ we pray to you that your will may be
done for us and for all the world. Through Jesus Christ grant us
faith that you love us, faith that we may live in your love, that
we may hope in your love every day and have peace on earth,
where there is so much unrest and trouble. Keep us firm and
constant, remaining in your peace and in the inner quiet you
give us because Jesus Christ has overcome the world. He has
truly overcome, and this fills us with joy. We praise you,
Almighty God, that you have sent Jesus Christ and that he has
overcome the world. We praise you that he has overcome all
evil, sin, and death, and that we may rejoice at all times
in your presence.

Malachi 3:10

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse,
that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,”
says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw
open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much
blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Today's Prayer...

Lord God,
help us who are allowed to hear your Word. Help us come with all
our hearts to the Savior, who leads us into your arms. Hear our
pleading and let your countenance shine over the world. Send a
new age soon, a new salvation to the earth, to the glory of your
name. Show us that what we have learned about you is the truth
and that we may live in the truth and find the way through to heaven,
to the glory of your name. Hear us, O Lord our God. Often it seems
that you are far away. But we know that our voices still reach you
and that those roused by your Holy Spirit will become your workers
for the Lord Jesus. Send your Spirit soon, O Lord God. Send the Comforter,
who leads us into all light and all truth. We entrust ourselves and our
daily lives to you. We want to be faithful. Help us to be your children,
to remember at every step that we belong to you, Lord God. No matter
how dark it is on earth, help us remember that we are with you,
your children in eternity.

1. Psalm 23: So Much to Be Grateful for
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.”

It’s no surprise that this is one of the most recognized passages in all the scriptures. It’s beautiful, poetic, and comforting. It’s also a powerful reflection on God’s goodness.

Psalm 23 identifies many wonderful elements of God’s care that we might normally take for granted—or fail to recognize. David recognizes elements like God’s provision (I shall not want), spiritual renewal (he restores my soul), his discipline (your rod and staff, they comfort me), and his protection (you prepare me a table in the presence of my enemies).

We’re often tempted to take credit for precious moments of comfort, care, tranquility, and victory in our lives, but it’s important to recognize the loving hand of God’s providence in our lives.

start with generosity

2. Psalm 50:23: A Sacrifice of Gratitude
“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!”

Thanksgiving is one of the most important elements of worship. Not only are we recognizing God for his amazing attributes like sovereignty and patience, we are learning to recognize their presence in our lives. This not only glorifies God, it trains us to be more aware of God’s care in our lives.

3. Psalm 100:1–5: Thanksgiving: The Gateway to God’s Courts
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.”

Full of passion and exuberance, this is a beautiful picture of worship. The image of entering his gates with thanksgiving is powerful. What if we thought of gratitude as the literal doorway into worship?

4. Psalm 107:1: Giving Thanks
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!”

Reiterating the words from Psalm 100, and driving them home even more, David reminds us to give thanks because God has been so good to us.

5. Psalm 118:28–29: Personal Gratitude for Corporate Salvation
“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

6. Psalm 136: 1–3: Responding to God’s Steadfast Love with Thanksgiving
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever”

But even more importantly, the Lord wanted to ensure that this element of his character would really make its way into our hearts. Take a moment to consider the concept of eternity….it’s almost impossible for us to really fathom—and yet “forever” is the only way to really communicate the height, breadth, and depth of God’s love.

7. Lamentations 3:22–24: God’s Never-Ending Mercies
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘therefore I will hope in him.’”

Here we have the author of Lamentations (likely Jeremiah) reiterating the Psalms’ theme of God’s steadfast love. And then he adds a beautiful meditation on God’s mercy.

Not only is God’s mercy never ending, it’s renewable. We’re not living off yesterday’s provision. And knowing that God is extending fresh grace fills me with gratitude—and a reinvigorated conviction to walk in his ways.

I don't have the prayers and prose of Ice Wizard. But the Lord allowed me a lovely house. The last rental home left in my areas.

Too exhausted to do much today. Far more unpacking and organizing to do. But, with God's grace and mercy He allowed me to make it up here. To a glorious area that I always loved.

Praise the Lord.

Acts 3:6

6 Then Peter said,
“Silver or gold I do not have,
but what I do have I give you.
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

Today's Prayer...

Lord God,
we come into your presence and bow down before you,
the Almighty. We come before you and repent, believing
in you and in your will to save us. Your will to save goes
out over the whole world, over the whole godless world,
that all may repent and be redeemed. Grant us the thoughts
of your heart so that we may begin to understand your will.
We dedicate ourselves to you, the holy, just, righteous, and
merciful God. Grant that we may be your children, led and
guided by you every day. Turn our hearts to you so that you
can make us more and more as you want us to be. Turn our
hearts to you until your goal of atonement and redemption is
reached through the quiet working of your almighty power.

Revelation 3:17

17 You say, ‘I am rich;
I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’
But you do not realize that you are
wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Today's Prayer...

Lord God Almighty,
bring in the day, the day of Jesus Christ, through whom we
shall be united. Then we shall recognize each other as fellow
citizens, as brothers and sisters, and we shall have peace on
earth. Give your Spirit anew, O Lord our God. Free and
enlighten every heart so that each person can acknowledge
the Word you have given and hold fast to all your promises,
even in dark and troubled times. Be with us. Be with our people.
Help us in our times, O Lord God. We wait for you.
We await your peace, a new peace – not the old peace,
not a return to comfort and selfish desires, but your
peace – which shall bring us into the life of heaven, where
we find Jesus Christ, the Living One, our Shepherd and Leader.

1 Corinthians 16:13

13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith;
be courageous; be strong.

Today's Prayer...

Lord our God,
we thank you that you have revealed your glory in your
Son Jesus Christ. We thank you that today we can still
see and feel the glorious grace which streams out from
Jesus Christ in his victory over the world, the powerful
help which benefits all those who find faith. Grant that
a further glory may be revealed, faith dwelling in the
hearts of all people, faith that can conquer all the need
and suffering on earth, faith that is the power to look
to you, to become inwardly quiet in you, and to hope
in you at all times. Then your help will come quickly,
more quickly than we can imagine. It will come on us
unawares, for the Savior has said,
“See, I shall come quickly.” We want to hope and
believe and trust till the end.

Joshua 1:7 - 9

7 “Be strong and very courageous.
Be careful to obey all the law my servant
Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the
right or to the left, that you may be successful
wherever you go.
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips;
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be
careful to do everything written in it. Then you will
be prosperous and successful.
9 Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the LORD your God will be with you
wherever you go.”

Today's Prayer...

Lord our God,
in the name of Jesus Christ, who is close at our side as the
risen and living One, we lift our eyes to you in prayer.
Bless us. Bless us through your Word, and let our hearts
become quiet in you. Free us from all restlessness and
from the turmoil of the present age, for we belong to you,
not to the world. We want to find peace in you and remain
in you. You will care for us as your children, whom you will
never forget in all eternity. Bless us and renew the riches
of your grace in us every day, for you,
O Lord our God, remain our Father.
