After reviewing some of the studies I am even more skeptical than before. This quote from a medical mmj doc really kinda sums it up for me: “Cannabis has been consumed for many centuries and is currently used by millions of people in many countries,” . It is hard to believe that a distinctive syndrome caused by cannabis has never been noted before by users or clinicians.”

In addition many of the studies seem to be flawed. It is of vital importance to realize in scientific studies that correlation DOES NOT equal causation. So far I see no evidence that mmj causes CHS. There is only a correlation at this point in my opinion which means nothing to me (nor should it to the scientific community) until we see causation. There is also the fact that before CHS ever came about, patients were previously diagnosed with a condition known as Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS). I'm of the opinion that many of the people claiming CHS really just have CVS and happen to consume mmj as well, and the doctor is simply correlating their usage with the symptoms to classify it as CHS. And unfortunately I would not be the least bit surprised if these same doctors have "incentives" to make these diagnoses (big pharma of course).

I guess to sum up I would take this all with a grain of salt. It is a very new illness and probably needs much further trial studies by unbiased parties to carry any validity . I apologize if I caused anyone any concern but I was curious as to what my fellow members thought. I know that I will be continuing my regimen without worry as I nor my significant other have ever experienced anything close to these symptoms. Like Charon said, trust in yourself and find what works for you!

I agree about the "incentives"

It is all too possible. It is things like the possibilities of Incentives I wonder about when I think about how new this illness is, and how it seemed to come about more and more as the plant becomes more and more legal. Maybe it is possible. My significant other uses nothing but concentrates, and to be fair, there were no issues before she switched, and she wont completely stop long enough to find out if there will be a decrease in her agony.

We were at the hospital yet again today, and when I was speaking to the doctor, he claims that in Colorado, emergency room visits have gone up 25% since the state's legalization. If this is true or not, i don't know. My guess is there is some truth as I would hope a doctor would not pull figures and stats out of thin air.

I just don't know. So like you Double Deuces, I am up in the air.

Why after hundreds if not thousands of years of consuming a plants extracts have we only just heard of this now, i'm with those who think its a big pharma scare story, they must be well pissed off that folks are turning to using a natural growing plant rather than some of the poison they try and push onto us telling us it will do us no harm, thalidomide anyone?

Very much agreed G. Elias! I can only laugh when I see these commercials for new pharmaceutical drugs that say things like side effects may include heart attack, stroke, and even death. Yeah let me try that over mmj where worst case scenario I vomit. The more I delve into this the more of a crock I think it is.

and the meds the FDA approves have caused big problems and get banned and brought back.

thalydamide sp? was given for nausea. the babies were born with fins and not arms nor legs. banned. but when Aids came along, it went to third world countries and the women took them. still legal.

celebrex. celebrex. celebrate the days of ur life. yeah, that brought on my major stroke in my early forties. banned and is back again.

my sister was offered an apt on first avenue and first street. if she scripted what they wanted her to. ah, no.

but, she was well educated but doctors do believe, or did believe, the FDA once. my own sister was convinced that xanax was not addictive cuz the salespeople told her so. i had to pick her off the floor on many an occasion. her psych contacted me to tell me she has a serious problem with xanax. yeah he violated hippa or such. but, i got her clean.

a couple yrs ago, if a celeb did a promo for a drug, he or she did not have to state all the side effects. so, now when people listen to them, it is unreal. oh, u have a slight pink rash on your shouldar? Get shots of humira. sure u may die but u will die without those irksome red spots.

And, we probably only vomit a bit cuz this stupid article put the concept in our heads. and tummies.

But, i never saw a shouting syndrome from MMJ. Unless the perp was busted with fifty pounds. Then he may shout.

To add to the discussion about the thousands of years this plant has been consumed and a profound lack of evidence of this 'syndrome' is highly indicative of a scare tactic or what others have hypothesized, herbicides and pesticides.

Any organophosphates will cause neurological and other problems that may not be detected for years, if not decades. I have my own suspicions that we won't uncover what 'we' have done to ourselves (through what we believe the be the best methods of agriculture) until after 2050 when the future generations have grown up and a strong correlation between lifestyle habits of now and symptoms of deteriorating human health and disease are established.

Oh what a wonderful and wonderfully scary world we live in and perpetuate.

Thalidomide is a classic example of unintended consequences. And for those that know about thalidomide and it's cousins is that it is still being given my doctors in the US today. Of course they don't prescribe it under the same circumstances and for the same patient population, but rather....those with multiple myeloma and other malignancies.

I find this knowledge to be interesting and at the same time repulsive. It's almost as if they tried to find SOME use for it to make up for the big F up decades ago. Eck.

This syndrome is not real. Fabricated by you know who. It is reefer madness for the modern age. I've known many who use this legally and illegally and the worst thing ive ever seen happen is anxiety and panic, and maybe a drop in blood pressure. It is infuriating and logically inept, maybe one day things will change.

So in the US and maybe other countries i don't know about , thalidomide is still being prescribed but for a different reason? I find that deeply sickening after all that was learned all those years ago, i still see people who got affected by that stuff, what a mixed up world, all to make money no doubt, rebrand and wrap it up in a different packet, big pharm seems to have no ethics or heart.

yes, it is.  it is possible when a pope came to NY and i was in catholic grammar school, i may have seen a young man born with flippers.  his name could have been tony melendez.  and he played the guitar with his feet for the Pope.

But, in the US we had a helluva time helping these poor people.  And, using them in third world countries is horrific.  As if their lives were not difficult enuff.

And, pretty much no matter what u have in the US, u will get scripted humira, a rheumatoid arthritis med. now its for IBS. and red spots on one's skin.
