Reading this makes me happy that I 'encouraged' my old pain doctor NOT to prescribe gabapentin for my pain. I prefer the tried and true opiates like hydro and it alone got me through the hardest parts after my surgery (even though it had to be scripted with a muscle relaxer for legal reasons). I'm weary of ANY drug that needs to be taken in doses exceeding 500 mg/day. Anything taken in that high of a dose (like trams) is going to significantly increase any associated side-effects. There are better options available, I believe. Unless there is a specific type of nerve pain that opiates or other opioids couldn't do a better job of managing...
