To add to the Magnesium supplementation...
Please do not walk into wally world and just pickup magnesium from the pharm section. It's 99% guaranteed to be Magnesium oxide; THE most useless form of magnesium found in nature (for human consumption) lol. It's literally the kind of magnesium that you would naturally find in dirt and concrete.
Magnesium Aspartate is what you want. Highly bioavailable. FYI.
Edit: httpx://examine.com/supplements/magnesium/ : A wealth of info found here. Probably too much for anyone in 1 sitting. The takehome is there about magnesium oxide though. I forgot that magnesium citrate has also good bioavailability, however, I wouldn't buy it and drink it unless I was constipated or planning on flushing my system.
It's funny that in different parts of the world doctors tend to prescribe different benzos for different things. Where I live it is almost impossible to get a script for Xanax- the doctors always go for lorazepam, that or diazepam.
That said, I love the goofy sleepy feeling of diazepam that other benzos just don't give me.
I am very happy for you Kristof that you have a very good GP. I sure wish I did.

Slippery slope using benzos for sleep though. Have you tried other options like melatonin?
This is good feedback. Can make your ability to sleep dependent on the benzo you are using.
Melatonin is good. I find that many people with sleep issues are magnesium deficient. Get yourself a magnesium supplement and take daily. Make sure it is all natural, not artificial (just ask an employee and a supplement store for advice). I recommend a potassium-magnesium supp.
Also, "CALM" works very well. You can drink it before bed or drink it if you wake up in the middle of the night.
Yes, I drink Calm (the one with magnesium, melatonin, theanine and GABA) every night before going to bed. I love it. I find I still need an additional sleep aid. I have been using an AD (remer0n) for sleep and it helps too.
It really seems to vary quite a bit from person to person, but I find Loraz to be the only sedative that is 100% mellow and relaxing. I have used it for sleep, but I know that it can aggravate even mild sleep apnea, so not a great idea for many people. Valium is similar, but a bit harsher on my system for some reason. I get pretty extreme dry mouth and eyes.
All other benzos I have tried make me feel uncomfortably drugged. Based on what I have read, it really seems to depend on the individual's brain chemistry more than anything else.

HAH!!! Very sadly and quickly becoming the norm.

I have been using etiz off and on for a few years now. I fall asleep quickly and wake up refreshed in the morning. I, luckily, only use half the subscription.
I tried both diazepam and lorazepam from my doc, I was honest with him when I said diazepam was, In my case a little strong. He nodded and said he had heard that before, so Ativan it became but not every night. Things have been working out just fine. I can take it, look at the clock, know in one hour I'll be asleep....but with nothing left over in the morning.
That's just my opinion ; )
Lorazepam works best for me for sleeping. It seems to work faster then diazepam. Lorazepam is also easy on the stomach and is often prescribed for IBS.
I have always preferred loraz myself. Just a bit more I find
