* IMPACTS...High temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur."
It started bout 2 days ago. Brutal heat and humidity. Dangerous to elders and those with autoimmunes.
*DON'T INVITE ANIMALS. But keep them in mind if you live near water and animals come round, have some water out. I get to put out bird seed for birds and chipmunks. and kitties and cats. Hope it is not a feral colony. I kinda doubt it.
But if animals come, make sure they have water.
It takes minutes for a dog or cat to walk on a heated pavement and burn their pads on their feet. I imagine the pets, stressed out by fireworks already, are having a difficult time with the heat. All animals need water. A wee squirrel went up to a passerby and begged him to share his water bottle which he did.
A new police officer left a brand new trainee for police dog work in the vehicle for less than 1/2 hour. The pup died.
Watch for your kids and pets. And yourself. It is brutal out there.
We were also in unusually high temps and humidity. It has finally dropped some but we are in a drought.
I am one that has brought my dog with me but I leave him in the truck with a/c on and car running. I also post a sign on the window that basically says my dog is lounging in the truck with the air conditioning running on a very comfortable 68 degrees and he has fresh water to drink. I just don't want anyone to call animal control on me.
My heart just sank when you said a puppy died in the car after 1/2 hr.
PA is under the same conditions!! I was out in the sun standing on black macadam for about 30 minutes today
and when I got back in the car my face was bright red, I was dripping sweat and my head was pounding!!
PLEASE if you have to be in that type of situation, take CARE!!!
Any one still wondering about global warming????? Yeh I know it is summer but check out the range of normal temps a few days into Summer!!
I am ready for mid July to August hibernation.

Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for ozone. The air quality index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern.
When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician.
