That ‘70s Show’ actor Danny Masterson sentenced to 30 years to life on rape convictions

It happened 20 yrs ago. He seems to believe it is scientology, not the devil, whom made him do this.

What an arse. That show was big and he could have lots of females appropriately. He chose rape. Well, in prison, he will find out alot more about Rape of the weaker. Seriously stupid.

Danny Masterson was sentenced Thursday to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women in Los Angeles decades ago.

A jury of seven women and five men in May found the 47-year-old actor guilty of two counts of forcible rape. Both attacks occurred in Masterson’s Hollywood-area home in 2003, when he was at the height of his fame and starring on the Fox network sitcom, “That ’70s Show.”

The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on a final count — an allegation that Masterson also raped a longtime girlfriend — which was dismissed after prosecutors said they would not retry him. Judge Charlaine Olmedo allowed all three women to provide victim impact statements during the sentencing hearing, which was also packed with the actor’s supporters.

“When you raped me, you stole from me,” one of the victims said Thursday. “You are pathetic, disturbed and completely violent. … The world is better off with you in prison.”

The verdict came in a second trial after jurors failed to reach a decision on the same three counts of forcible rape in December and a mistrial was declared.

In a motion filed Thursday, Masteron’s defense team asked for yet another retrial, but Olmedo refused to grant it. The defense attorneys had sought a sentence of 15 years to life.

“Mr. Masterson, I know that you’re sitting here steadfast in your claims of innocence, and thus no doubt feeling victimized by a justice system that has failed you,” the judge told Masterson before handing down the sentence. “But Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person’s voice, and choice. One way or another you will have to come to terms with your prior actions, and their consequences.”[

During the weekslong retrial earlier this year, prosecutors contended Masterson used his prominence within the Church of Scientology to silence his accusers and dodge any real consequences for nearly 20 years. All three women, who were also Scientologists, blamed the church when asked about their hesitancy to come forward. When they reported Masterson to church officials, they said, they were told they were not raped and were put through what the church calls “ethics programs” and warned against going to law enforcement to report a member of such high standing.


“They were raped, they were punished for it, and they were retaliated against,” Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller told jurors at the trial. “Scientology told them there’s no justice for them.”

Deemed a flight risk, Masterson was escorted from the courtroom amid the legal proceedings and has been in custody ever since.

The actor, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, did not testify.

After the verdict, the Church of Scientology issued a statement declaring that the “testimony and descriptions of Scientology beliefs” during the trial were “uniformly false.”

“The church has no policy prohibiting or discouraging members from reporting criminal conduct of anyone — Scientologists or not — to law enforcement,” the statement said.

The judge had limited testimony about Scientology at Masterson’s original trial but allowed prosecutors to question an expert witness at the second set of proceedings. That expert witness was Claire Headley, an ex-Scientologist who has become a prominent critic of the church.

I have not researched this case to see how scientology played into it. I had no idea he had become so crazy. Threw away his life.

For a religion? that does not even get followers into Heaven.
