PHEW! Had a scare today

I really freaked out this afternoon. I went to take the cover off of the dogs bed to wash it and found a round white pill in the bed. It was one of my somas that must have rolled off the table and I didn't realize it. I picked it up and could tell one of the pups had licked on it. I'm soooo thankful they didn't eat it. Me thinks it was the bitterness of them that they didn't like. Boy, I'll never complain about them being bitter again.
I don't know if it would have hurt them, but it could have been bad. Scared the hell outta me and I need to be much more careful with my meds.

So, anyone that has pets, please don't be careless with your meds like I was. It could have been a terrible accident that might have cost one of them their life. That would have killed me for sure.

Just wanted to throw that out there to watch where your meds are.

Morning Cricket, I am really glad that no harm was done.  

Good thing your doggie is a careful eater!

One of my friends walked into her toddler surrounded by her FIL's heart pills once.  Fortunately none of the pills were ingested.  Never let her FIL babysit again until the kids were much older.

I often think there are a lot of similarities between dogs and babies.

I know that had to be VERY scary to see all those pills around the little one. Accidents can happen so quickly. He/she could have thought they were candy and went to town on them. Someone upstairs was watching out for them BIG TIME.

I had accidently knocked my bottle of somas over on the table and thought I had grabbed all that were rolling, but must have missed that one my dogs found. Just so thankful they didn't like the bitter taste of them.

Anyway, hope you're having fun and NO pain involved. You will have to tell us about your trip when you get back.

Yea... I can't even get my dog to eat the pills she's supposed to... And those s*mas taste like bitterweeds.... Thank goodness they do I guess, for the dog... Not for me

I mean Vets prescribed many a med for dogs. Same as humans. Unless it was a puppy, or elderly dog, i don't believe one soma would have killed ur doggie.

But, thank God they did not touch it.

(Doggy may have been exhibiting the olde weak legs syndrome that nite. Been a bit afraid. But, correct me if I am wrong, smarter people, but I suspect one soma on a normal sized, healthy dog would not require a stomach pump.)

The best thing to give to get dogs or cats to take their pills, is to place the pill in small amount of cold cuts, directly into mouth. But, those of us whom did rescue, we used the $1 gerber meat strains for toddlers. Lamb, Chicken.

I never had one of my rescues refuse the Baby Food Meat. Makes pills far easier for ur pets. It is expensive.

Good luck for you and doggie.  I'm thinking like Charon that it wouldn't have been fatal, but that's just a guess so good deal.

I remember when my taste started to return after radiation to the mouth and jaw had killed the taste cells--they are "fast" growing, "fast" reproducing, and that's what the radiation acts on.  The first taste to come back is according to docs and people on my forum, is "bitter".  The medical thought is that tasting "bitter", anthropologically speaking was a way of telling humans that it was not a good idea to eat it, good for survival.  Sweet, sour, and the other tastes return later, but bitter taste buds grow back first.

Yes Cricket, good all worked out. Soma is bitter as they come, but maybe to a dog all meds are not worthy of eating. Please don't trust this.. I don't know. Again, glad to hear everything ok

I wasn't sure if it was my older dog or the puppy that had it. It might not have hurt them, but you never know.

I had an older dog that would not take her pills for anything. I needed the jaws of life to get her mouth open when she knew what was coming. The only thing that did the trick for her was to hide it in a piece of cheese. She would eat ANYTHING if wrapped in cheese. She was my little cheese head LOL.

My cats see a pill and run.  My one now associates pills with the vet, me pinning her to the ground to shove it in her mouth, finding it in every type of her favorite food, etc.,

Thanks Harley, but my old girl that was the cheese freak passed away last June.

Animals are much smarter than many people give them credit for. But that piece of cheese worked better than anything else I tried. It was funny. We would sit there and share a slice of cheese every night. I sure do miss my little angel.

Just gotta luv 'em.
