here's everything we know about the movie, including story details
and its release date.







Rob Zombie’s reboot of The Munsters is well into pre-production, and this is everything
we know about the much-anticipated film. It may come as a surprise that Rob Zombie,
the death-metal rocker turned horror director, would sign on for a remake of a family-friendly
sitcom, but this is in fact a dream come true for Zombie, the director of the misunderstood
Halloween movies. In fact, when the filmmaker took to Instagram to officially announce
his reboot of The Munsters, he described it as a film that he had been chasing for 20 years.
Zombie’s love for the sitcom is no secret as he appeared on the commentary for Munster,
Go Home! and even named a song after the Munster’s family car, Dragula.

The Munsters originally aired on CBS for two seasons from 1964 to 1966 and starred Fred Gwynne
as Herman Munster and Yvonne De Carlo as Lily Munster. The television show followed the
over-the-top family of Transylvanian monsters and their misadventures living in a small suburban
community. The Munsters aired concurrently with The Addams Family, which aired on ABC from
1964 to 1966, and received higher viewership than its cooky counterpart. Additionally, Zombie’s
new film will not be the first attempt at revitalizing the sitcom, as there have been attempts to
reboot the franchise over the years, though each failed to move forward.

Nonetheless, many details remain under wraps for The Munsters reboot. There have been, however,
a slew of reveals on social media that provide insight into the film’s development. Zombie has used
his widely followed Instagram to reveal BTS photographs from the television show reboot's progress
through pre-production. These reveals have included concept art for costumes, wigs and prostheses,
and blueprints for the Munster’s classic home. With that in mind, it’s worth examining everything
that’s been confirmed surrounding The Munsters reboot and what audiences can expect from
Rob Zombie’s latest venture.








To date, only one role has been officially cast, Lily Munster. According to IMDB, Rob Zombie’s wife,
Sheri Moon Zombie, will portray Lily in the upcoming reboot. Sheri Moon Zombie’s role in the film
should come as no surprise as she has been in every one of her husband’s feature films. In fact,
Rob Zombie often works with many of the same actors. One source, Murphey’s Multiverse, claims
Jeff Daniel Philips will play Herman Munster, with additional roles filled by Daniel Roebuck,
Jorge Garcia, and Cassandra Peterson (who is better known as Elvira). Again, while this cast
remains unconfirmed, this source revealed Rob Zombie’s reboot months before his
official announcement.







Given the film is still in its early stages of pre-production, very little is known in regard to the
plot of The Munsters reboot. Some have worried Zombie will put his own grotesque spin on the
family-friendly sitcom, but his admiration for the original sitcom implies his adaptation will stay
true to its source material. Additionally, his latest Instagram posts indicate the film will still take
place at 1313 Mockingbird Lane and incorporate Dragula as the family’s audacious vehicle.
Taking these elements into consideration, it’s safe to assume Rob Zombie's film will follow the
loveable family of monsters as they deal with a small-minded suburban community.

Currently, no official release date has been set for The Munsters reboot, which isn’t all that
surprising given the film has not yet begun filming. However, it is unlikely that the film will
receive a theatrical debut. Instead, Zombie’s reboot will likely premiere on Peacock, NBC Universal’s
official streaming service sometime in 2022. This speculation is based on the film being handled
by the Universal production company 1440 Productions, which handles non-theatrical distribution.
