UKs treatment of disabled people
#1
Interesting article about the UKs attitude and treatment of the disabled and sick, comments below article are interesting as well, not a great place to be at present if you are unable to work due to illness and/or disabilities.

How awful they were tossed off disability and died. thousands.

A man running for office in the county i was born, had it in his platform that all disabled people had a problem with hygiene. hygiene. (I am impeccable about cleanliness, btw.)

And he wanted to use old abandoned prisons and fix them up and make the disabled live in them. to learn how to use proper hygiene.

This was one year and a half ago.

but, it sounds awful. and isn't it cute that a few people were in wheelchairs. mighty well dressed.

cricket always said those called disabled are the useless eaters.

It does seem that way.

Prince Phillip used the term useless eaters to describe the general public in the UK,those that pay for his royal life style.
Some of the words used by some politicians in this country have been really insulting towards the sick and disabled, its stirring up bad feeling towards the sick on state benefits or social security as it is in reality.
We are all lazy scroungers, they want the sick to jump thru hoops for their social security, disability payments. Its getting very mean in the UK,if its not immigrants they slander its the muslim community, then they started on the sick after the financial crash in 2008,any excuse to deflect away from the dirty mess they have created here, feels more like victorian times than 2018,the public are being almost brainwashed into thinking in a almost backward ignorant way, media are just as bad in promoting this hate,Murdochs papers are a prime example of this horrid attitude.

Sometimes you just have to laugh at Prince Phils use of words, its like he just landed from another time zone like the 1930s.

Have only scratched the surface slightly on this topic Charon, I dont know how it is in the US with treatment of those who are sick and disabled so unable to work, have seen a few comments made by US folks around the web that aint so nice towards those unable to work.

Was in a social security medical assessment center recently, there were so many people in there not all were seen, some had travelled miles to get there, they are calling in too many to assess.

One guy was left waiting in a corridor for hours, he was obviously not well going off his behavior and how he was talking, he was told nobody could see him and sent home, that guy could be the next one who finds the treatment too much and joins the growing list of suicides, something is very wrong here, its nasty, it should not be happening, our primeminister calls herself a christian but allows people to be treated so badly.
I just hope they leave me alone for a while now, i can just about manage atm, if they cut my income any more i am up that creek with no paddle, the politicians who make these laws for social security should first have to live for a min of 6 months on the lowest rate, no help from friends or family, lets see how they cope and at the end ask them if they want those laws they brought in to stay the same, if they cheat and get help they are automatically banned from being a politician ever again.
( we could also add the stocks to that if caught cheating, rotten food to be thrown at them ,leave them in the stocks all day long)

G.Elias, I completely agree with so much of what you've written. There is something nasty, mean, and divisive going on in the UK.  I feel ordinary people are being misdirected to get angry at each other (especially at minority groups) to deflect from anger at the financial institutions and those who have enriched themselves through the misery of others.

Unfortunately Orwell's "1984" seems to be used as a textbook for government. Even calling social security money "benefits" makes it sound like a needless extravagance. I don't see the meagre sums of money given to people as some sort of prize, they are to stop people in a civilised society, and one of the richest countries in the world, from hitting Victorian style poverty. I think it morally abhorrent that things are heading that way. And I really wish the media would stop parroting this sort of loaded language.

BTW Have you seen the Ken Loach film "I Daniel Blake"? Judging by the topics you've mentioned and news source, I would guess you have. To anyone else reading this, it is a very good movie but hard viewing (i.e. might not be the best choice if feeling depressed!). The description of the social security medical center really reminded me of that, although the film is more Kafkaesque.

Not seen the Ken Loach film just yet barq, keep meaning to watch it then think it would make me depressed, esp dealing with them at the mo, all those forms and questions at medicals seemed to be there to make a person fail, its all become so nasty and demeaning, your right, more like Victorian Britain nowadays, wait til this universal credit is rolled out all over, its going to end up with people desperate for money spending what they receive for rent on other stuff they need, evictions will rise, streets fill up with yet more homeless, sometimes its like they want us to fail and end up on the streets with no social security, heartless.
Yes, when did SS become 'benefits' ? All dressed up but with never anywhere to go, that government minister who replaced IDS lies to parliament about universal credit, about suicides but no action gets taken against her, if i lied about claiming SS you can bet they'd be down on me, throwing the whole damn book at me, this government is getting away with so much that no civilised country should be allowing to take place, shame that there is so many voting for these bad lot, beats me as to why working class folk actually vote for them, may as well make the rope, tie it into a noose and kiss their asses goodbye, what a place we have become.
Hopefully, better days will come.

the term "useless eaters"is a common one used by the elite trying to control the world.

At least I have seen it used a lot.

Sad stuff to read.

Think the term came from the nazis, quiet apt really, if you dig a bit deeper into this subject then some of the things you might find would be really awful, lot of bad articles about how the UK is treating the sick and disabled on the net, everytime i read a different one it still suprises me of how bad it has become, it shouldnt really suprise me anymore but it does.
Austerity and all the talk of balancing the books was a cover for just doing what they have wanted to do to the poor in the UK for a long time, even the UN has said its unacceptable but still they carry on with their nasty plans, hopefully one day they'll be booted out...hopefully.

Politics in the UK seems to be going to the more conservative side the last couple of years. Not the best evolution imo.
