Form to let USPS Sign for your package
#1
As far as I understand, when a parcel is sent using Registered Mail, the mailman is "required" to receive a signature when they make delivery, or if you aren't home they leave a slip for re-delivery or pickup.  I know this varies depending on the actual delivery person on your route, as most of my previous mailmen would leave it in my mailbox as long as it fit without even trying to get a signature.  Seeing that USPS delivers mail between 8am-5pm and closes at 5pm, me and most other working Americans will never be available to sign for our mail, which seems extraordinarily inconvenient.

I have heard from a few different people and sources that USPS has a form/waiver of some sort that would give them the right to sign for these parcels for you so that they can be left in your mailbox, anyone know if this is a thing?  USPS customer service was about as useful as calling Comcast customer support and barely understood what I was asking so I figured I would see if anyone here had an answer.

Much love,

You are correct. It is very inconvenient. Do you have a neighbor that you trust could sign for it? You could leave a note in your mailbox and ask them to go to said neighbor sign for you. You can pick it up Saturday if you can wait that long. That makes me impatient sometimes though. You may call your local post office and ask them what your options are. I dont like having to sign for them myself but I do like the ability to track it. Good luck

Our Post office gave us some of those signature forms and I just signed them and put them in the back of my mailbox, they were nice enough to put them in a plastic bag for me so they wouldn't get wet. I don't think they were supposed to give me the forms but they got tired of missing me and me having to go wait while they found my package so they ave me those forms kind of on the sly. I just told them I am never home when the mail comes so we are going to have the issue every time I need to sign and it was their idea to give me the forms. They leave my packages & take one of the signed forms.

What’s the name or number of the form?

kkascke - I'll have to look next time I get the mail since I just leave them in the box. It's a small rectangular form short of orangish-brown.

The guy that gave them to me kind of acted like he wasn't really supposed to but since our gate is always shut and they can't get to the house he did it. Good luck.
