You bring up a good point.

Alcohol is glamorized with wonderful people, having fantastic times, in glamorous locations   << all without consequences >>

As was tobacco at one time << now taken over with vaping & soon legal MJ >>

The diff is that Oxy was scripted and promoted by big pharma and the medical profession. << can't go down to MiniMart and buy Oxy legally >>

Each of these examples put too much discretion onto the consumer, all the while hiding or ignoring the numerous consequences of overuse.

I am not for banning any of these.

What I am for is better education and new rules and restrictions for companies, on how they advertise their products on social media and

traditional information outlets << TV newpapers etc >>. No more fine print, at the bottom of the screen about the side effects, or how you need to drink responsibly etc.

PUT IT UP FRONT AND CENTER

This is where Oxy went off the rails.

It was promoted heavily, while the consequences were hidden/or under emphasized, until the problem became a systemic nation wide epidemic.

At one time there was a place for Oxy in the pain doctors tool box, but sadly that place has now been taken away.

Oxy is now the pariah of pain med and that my friends is really too bad.

JMHO is all folks

Absolutely insane the amount of pharmacy commercials. I can’t stand them especially humaria ones the pharmaceutical companies just keep pushing their drugs. All of them have a butt load of side effects. They need real people with these problems to explain how they are really feeling after using there product.

in more than thirty five years, when did big pharma ever not aggressively promote a medicine?

my elder doctor sister was past president of NYC hospitals. ran a womans center or two.  And i was there when a rep offered her anything if she would script his crap.  He offered her an apt on first avenue and first street in NYC.

it was her dream.  But being ethical was her reality.

The stupid celebrities promoted big pharmas wares for years cuz the law exempted a celeb from having to state all the main side effects of a med.

The minute they brought kevil nealon? and arnold palmer together, golfing, to promote some med, i knew the class action law suits were beginning.  and, soon enuff they did.

And i detest reading the fine print of a commercial and learning that the lunatic on screen is an actor.  If the product worked so well, maybe real former patients would be alive to make realistic commercials.

Cuz the people I know whom had Humira injections for RA, said it was miserable. God forsaken. And but for her five kids, she would do an air bubble or whatever.  The humira was more torture than the RA.

Please, I dont have a PDR.  But you must research the side effects of any medicine drs want to give you.  Learn the terms of art.

Because Big pharma will lie.  It lies all the time.  It has made humira the snake oil of our time.  Scripted for all problems? Dry skin? humira.  Acne? humira.

You got an ailment? humira.

You know I find that difficult to believe.

Well said my friend!! And a big hello to Charon and everyone!  Been away for awhile.  Sorry to hijack the thread to say hi! Blush

All true, folken, and I couldn't agree with you more.  The fine print needs to be stated up front, not hidden in plain sight.  Oxy does have a place for medical use, but I'm afraid doctors' professional discretion is being undermined by panic and politics.  IMO, education is the key, and that, too, should be done on tv and other social media (advertising).
