Yes, Monteverde was colonized by Quakers from the US who felt they were being persecuted and so started a new life in Costa Rica,
I think the literacy rate is near 95%. Free medical/dental, no army, nobody can own ocean front property.......many friendly and humble people.......you are very lucky to have had your experience. Been there 4-5 times and would return in a heartbeat.

Do you take all the pictures that you post? They are beautiful. R.

I have been to Costa Rica, but in the mountains that are in a rain forest, in a cloud forest. Everywhere you looked was beautiful. I believe the area is called Monteverde and St. Elena. Costa Rica has like 12 different types of terrain and climates. You could spend weeks there and never see the same thing twice. The people are so warm and their priority is education for their children. My cousin has a friend that owns a farm in the mountains and invited some cousins to visit for a few days. We spent our time with the locals and not the tourists. It was an opportunity of a lifetime. Glad you enjoy it, too. R.

Popster,
Yes, they still have the Quaker run schools. And the children I had the pleasure to visit with in my broken Spanish, were very bright and respectful. The school vacations coincide the harvests and needs of the farms. The peacefulness and tranquila attitude almost had me not leaving!! You have been fortunate to keep going back. R.
