Shipments from the US to>> China had been experiencing delays for a month or so now. U$P$ had removed their delivery time guarantee to China due to delivery issues. For deliveries to the US a look at Alibaba/Aliexpress (Completely unrelated subject matter to this forum) shows a post/notice on March 3rd “Some shipping and logistics are experiencing longer waiting times for processing orders” An understatement in my opinion...

I have an order in with an Aliexpress seller, placed Jan.29th. Items still haven't arrived. Typically takes 15 days or so..

It's already been determined the virus can't survive the long haul to the states via parcel. Main issue in China ATM is safe handling and sorting of domestic parcels to prevent spread.

Where I am, in the US, we are already getting impacted hard by this. At least 80% of our goods come from China. Stores like Walmart, Target, Apple and even Amazon are already feeling the effects due to China’s factories shutting down. They have cargo ships just sitting idle waiting, and other ships can’t even get to the ports. They are only letting very few ships in/out from what I’ve been hearing. DHL reported issues with their cargo shipping, but UPS and FedEx Express are continuing to fly in and out. Some factories have started to re-open but it’s going to be a slow process unfortunately.

My best friend works for the postal service (USPS) and they had a safety meeting this afternoon to discuss this situation. They were told even if this pandemic gets worse they will not cease delivering mail or packages. It would be impossible for them to “catch up” even if they had 1 day off never mind a week or two. She was told that USPS will stay delivering 99.9% unless a major sorting facility in their or your state’s area gets shut down, which is 99.9% unlikely. So now just have to wait and see what international mailing services are doing/going to do at this point, but if your subscription makes it to the states she mentioned they are going to start expediting packages to get them out of their facilities quicker, meaning less time for the virus to possibly live and spread in one place.

It seems as though mail and delivery services will continue. I guess they'll have a few issues with staff being off sick, but beyond that it is very much one of the things that governments will want to keep going. Seems the virus doesn't stay active on paper or cardboard for more than a couple of hours anyway.

Where you might see some disruption is that some air mail hitches a ride on passenger planes. There won't be so many passengers buzzing around the world for a while, although I'd imagine some flights will run purely to move the mail (I think some planes are just cargo). However I could see this introducing a bit of a delay between Europe and the USA (for example).

Mail is so fundamental to the way we live that to shut it down would be a step towards dismantling civilization. Those fundamental services, like internet and phones, will definitely be kept working.

Some people might take this as a good time to stock up i.e. order early so if it is slower than usual you won't run out.

Yep they made it very clear they will take precautions but will def not be shutting down. Agree 100% if they were to shut down it would be chaos. Even Monday’s are crazy for workers due to having Sunday’s off so I couldn’t imagine if they shut down ever for a week. Thankfully as stated there’s no evidence that the virus spreads from mailings or packages. I do feel for them though. Their job is hard enough and now they have to risk delivering mail to several homes and businesses that could in fact be infected. At this time I’ve only heard of 1 postal worker confirmed case in Seattle, WA facility and 2 confirmed in New York. These upcoming months are going to be far from easy.
