I was taught to never fill out the census. dunno. But me fathers wisdom did not prevail and me mother would welcome them into the home or volunteer to help.

OK, NOT AS IMPT AS ICEMANS THREAD BUT I CANNOT FIND THE CORONAVIRUS ONE I STARTED.

AND I GOT LOTS TO DO.

I GOT WORD THAT IF ONE DOES NOT SUBMIT THE CENSUS, ONLINE--TAKES MINUTES--THEY WILL SEND PEOPLE TO OUR DOORS. AND NOW THE NATIONAL GUARD IS HERE.

THEY DON'T MESS AROUND. JUST DO IT. OR DO U REALLY WANT A KNOCK AT YOUR DOOR BY A GUARDSMAN IN AN N95 MASK?

OK, VERY VERY IMPORTANT IF U SMOKE CIGARETTES IN NY. GOV CUOMO HAS ANNOUNCED HE IS CONSIDERING BANNING THE SALE OF CIGARETTES IN NY FOR A SIX WEEK PERIOD.

so, if u still smoke cigs, run to the store. But i know that those whom smoke are more at risk to covid, I don't know why it was stated he is doing this. Maybe the smoke will take down an elderly person if someone is smoking outside their window or in next apt. No idea yet.

And, NY cars are quarantined from entering another state. The other states will shut us out. Maybe quarantine us but one better have a good reason to want to enter Rhode Island. Troops will greet you and send u back. and i just read Mr. President is considering quarantining all of NY state. Kinda makes me feel like i am in wuhan. And apparently my state voted democratic so it enraged some.

But, if u are comfortable opening ur door and life to a stranger whenever they decide to show up after april first, then ok don't do the census. But i for one would be horrified. I don't open my door unless houseshare calls me and tells some idiot sent LE and social services. And, i heard fake people may go around and rob you. They say they are gvt workers.

Just sayin. Do the census online. Hell I know i get watched as an admin on a forum anyway. And they get bored and see i don't speak with vendors or own them and they dont own me. Just cuz of the admin title. But I dont want an unexpected knock at the door ever. For many a reason. Even if vanity thy name is woman. But it is a privacy issue. Do ur census fast.

And if u live in NY, we may be quarantined in NY. And if cigarettes sale is banned and u cannot hop to another nearby state to buy them, be prepared.

They did send a fella to my block (last census) and I avoided him like he had the plague..

He musta come to my house 10 times before he cornered me up...

I told him that I was actually visiting from ... Canada .. Aa

I did my Census a week or so ago only bc I heard at first that was how they were going to match up people with the stimulus bill. Found out that wasn’t the case, but I’m glad I did it. Don’t want anyone knocking at my door.

What Charon said about RI is so true, have lots of friends and family there and they are seeing anyone with NY plates getting pulled over. Ma isn’t doing the same though (yet), Gov. just had highway signs up asking anyone traveling from NY to quarantine for 14 days. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

I’m surprised they are thinking about banning cigs, I’d fear that would cause trouble just as closing liquor stores would cause issues. When I quit smoking I was sick for 2-3 weeks. I stopped cold turkey and had similar symptoms of the flu. I feel like that would cause people to panic even more. Everyday I wake up hoping that this is all a nightmare.

Back to census- beware there are also lots of fake ones going out. People trying once again to scam thru those as well. The real questions are simple- basically ppl in your home, ages, DOB and ethnicity. They have the exact questions posted on their site to help people avoid getting scammed but it’s still happening.

Man, the ethnicity thing was tricky. My houseshare had me type it up. We both put down American. It was not even a choice. and in parenthesis i added His parents were born in Germany. For me, I said My grandparents came from Ireland.

And i know some jewish people feel they are a race. not a religion per se alone. But i rushed cuz i wanted the damn thing to go thru.

I hope I did not put myself on some watch list. I was born and bred here and i did not have the chance to state that. I had to add from whence my people come. Fine. But my nationality is not Irish, It is american born thru and thru.

Me father would know what i should have said. But as an irishman, he was a dreamer. But very good with words in our own wacky way.

If someone comes to your door for the census, just remember that they go through a background check and get fingerprints and have an ID badge that you can verify online or by calling it in.

The census taker or field representative will present an ID badge that includes:
their name,
their photograph,
a Department of Commerce watermark, and
an expiration date.

They will have an official bag and Census Bureau-issued electronic device, such as a laptop or smartphone, bearing the Census Bureau logo.
Census takers and field representatives will conduct their work between the hours of 9am and 9pm, local time.
