Favorite Commercials
#1
Most Commercials are just irritating.  Sometimes they are the best things on TV.

Maybe you have some you like.

Right now I like the "Settler" commercial series.  The family that "settles" for pioneer life.  There are several, in one the wife has her cabbages, the son his hoop to role, and the dad can stomp his leg.

Another one I like shows a guy they cut to on and off trying to speak to a person on the phone for help.  He is shown plaintively slouching around the kitchen with his mobile phone saying "representative,  representative, representative"

Man, I have done that lots of times trying to get past the automated "help" messages.

I like the new "Benedict Arnold" computer commercial.  Benedict's story of why he betrayed has only recently been looked at in bio pics, and by historians.  That doesn't mean he wasn't a traitor, only that he got several very raw deals during what was otherwise an often heroic defense of the new republic.  Ben felt he had been betrayed by the revolution, and the powers that be.  The commercial is interesting in that Benedict was chosen at all, and that he is depicted as unrepentant in his betrayal, as much as he was a "patriot" in earlier battles for the new nation.

Anyway, it's a funny ad.

From the new Kevin Nealon ad for satellite TV.  Shows an older guy trying to get phone help.

"They told me you'd say that, and told me to call you."

"Hold on and let me connect you directly," says star ship captain Nealon, throwing the phone head piece to the floor.

I always dread calling agencies, corporate help lines, government help lines.  I called one recently, can't remember which one, and, after a few preliminary hoops a--honestly--voice came on saying "Hello, I'm an automated system designed to answer your question.  You can talk to me as you would a real person".  Well, I don't think so.  A real person would have never stood for what I said to that guy.

I despise automated answering systems. They can never understand anything. "tell us what you are calling about?" so i say something like 'speak to a rep' and they either reply "I didn't catch that" and they never do or its garbled "you want to change your password?" Some will let you enter numbers, entering a credit card account never works with voice.

A little trick you might try with those automated monsters is if they give you a series of choices and want you to tell them which you want, count which number it is and put that in. Like if they say "find your due date, last purchase, credit limit, ..." and you wanted last purchase, just press 2 and that will usually work.

Or if they start reeling off a list of options, press 0 and many times they will transfer you to a real person.

Hahaha! Bro Tatoe Chip! That commercial is so dumb but I laugh every time.

My favorite commercial is the slim Jim one the two guys are getting a ride in a carriage with the Amish guy and one of them says being an a**, "So how it is living without Internet? The Amish guy quietly says, "It's fine I just get pictures of your mom in the mail." By far my favorite!

Very old but I use to like that Alka Seltzer commercial where the guy is in the bathroom looking in the mirror feeling all sick... saying "I CAN'T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE THING"-----------> and the wife would say "You ate it, Ralph" about 3 times in a row. For some reason to a kid that was funny

I like that one too JC.  It's the old "your mother" retort, revisited.  Often having fun, those Madison Avenue ad people, and the "bro chip" stuff, absolutely absurd and funny.

Always liked that one too Jimbo.  The fatalistic recognition as he looks in the mirror, and his wife's voice in the background rubbing it in.  His only hope is Alka Seltzer.

LOL Have you seen the scrubbing bubbles commercials? SO funny. The husband says to the wife, "I've got a surprise for you tonight!" He's in the bathroom with the door closed and when he opens it he shaved her initials (I think) or I love you into his massive amount of chest hair. He was so proud and she just looks into the bathroom and see's all his body hair covering the sink. If you have not seen the scrubbing bubbles ones they are great!
