Very cool pic Popster.  In some state, on a hike with a German shepherd who rode with me for several years, we crossed a walking bridge with lily pads like these.  They were three-feet across.  I was tempted to let my shepherd, she loved to swim, to let her go so I could have something for scale to take a pic.  I didn't, thought she might get caught up in the flora, but there are some varieties of lily pads, like these I assume, that you can't believe until you see them.  Beautiful with the background.

BIG lily pads are jaw dropping.

This one is both humorous and beautiful......I will post in both threads.

cinder cones in the caldera of Haleakala volcano,  there are short steep ones thirty feel high, and the floor of the caldera--which you can hike--is mostly those red cinders they put on roofs.  Looks like Mars in there.

Wow, Spanky, it really does look like Mars.

Milifriori glass objects were inspired by Roman glass work and perfected in the late 19t century in Verona and Venice.  Though seen in plates and vases it's most elegant and mind blowing examples were created as paperweights.  "Milli" in this case as in other translates as "thousands".  The process is hard even for the most accomplished glass makers and has remained mainly the province of Verona and Venice in Italy.  The process involves the creation of a myriad number of floral patterns achieved individually on rods, then combined in clear glass.  There are lots of examples under the name on the net.  I first ran across them in a standing display in the DaYoung museum in San Francisco.  This one would be, I'm guessing about three to four inches across and 1-1/2 to 2-inches thick.  They remind me of fractals, but are not.  Here's a paperweight.
