Since a thorough write up on bitcoins will take a little while, here are a few sites to get those interested started.

bitcoin.org - a wealth of info

coinbase.com - probably the easiest way to buy, sell and store btc

localbitcoins.com - probably the most anonymous way to acquire btc, and it's pretty simple too.
I thought I should point out that with localbitcoins.com you use cash (or chickens, or whatever else you decide to transact in) to buy coins from people locally, that is why it is the most anonymous.

Thank you Lunar, I'm considering sending funds via money transfer again, there is two things that I will certainly do after reading this, (in person with cash and round numbers)! I can see how not using round number would make you stand out!

Lunar, great post. Thanks for the info! Does anyone use a LLC as mentioned in the post? The only reason I ask is that even though you won't identify yourself as the owner of the company they will still request an ID? I could be wrong. I have been away from the forums for a while. Two years ago WU and MG never asked me for ID. This week alone both companies at the same locations I used to use requested a license.

With the LLC route, asking for ID will only be a formality because your name will be no where on the transaction. So it will probably do no harm in showing them because nothing about you is being recorded. Remember, counter trolls are just regular people and as regular people they are just following protocol so they don't loose their jobs.

You could also try a different location, maybe one in a rougher neighborhood protocol would be less strictly adhered.

Thank you very much for all of the information. This is an area that I am completely unfamiliar with but have been wanting to learn more about; Thanks a lot!

Wow great write up lunar. Nicely summarized and straight to the point. Awesome info on the bitcoins. Always been curious just haven't found a vendor to implement it. I would love to see that become more common.
I imagine from the vendors standpoint that after so many pickups their name has gotta standout.at least for big vendors. Maybe they should implement the llc and set up as donation centers. Lol. But in all seriousness bitcoins and of course cim doesn't get much more discrete than that. I learn something new everyday. Thanks guys!

This is so helpful! I live in an urban area that is majority immigrants (at least my little pocket), so I have it pretty easy. But in my experience, the workers at places like Walgreens or Safeway are going to be more thorough (or nosy, depending on your view point) than those at check cashing places, who for the most part DGAF, especially if you aren't visibly drunk/high or yelling at them.
