(11-28-2018, 05:15 PM)maddy Hi, Linville. Wrote: I'll try to do some summary cut/paste but you could try this "non-link": www dot snopes dot com slash fact-check slash monthly-refugee-benefits
First, the stated "illegal refugees" benefit is in Canada, not the USA. Second, the claim is that "Each refugee in Canada receives $3,874 every month from the government under the Resettlement Assistance Program," but Snopes says this is "Mostly False." Also, "Refugees who receive the listed benefits are, by definition, not "illegal" (i.e. undocumented), most of the listed benefits are one-off payments and, not monthly stipends, and these benefits are for a family of five people rather than a single individual." Last clip, "The only regular monthly benefits are conveniently labelled “Regular Monthly Benefits,” and consist of payments for food, rent and transportation, which, because of the size of the family [5 people], total $1,399 CAD per month ($1,094 USD as of 15 November 2017)." (This is nothing like SS for US citizens, but that's an entirely different discussion.) The US does have some Refugee Cash Assistance programs, but much as the Canadian info above, the intent is to help the (legal) newcomers assimilate into this country, so they can go on to get jobs and take care of their own families.
The Snopes page actually shows some source documents to back this up. Bottom line, legal refugees in Canada can receive some financial assistance; that is true in this country, too. But that FB picture is comparing apples to oranges, IMO, or even worse, comparing apples to dragons!
(And I'm not touching the Clintons with a 10-foot pole!)
I hope you don't feel like I'm picking on you with this, our government does enough awful stuff in this country, but I believe that any discussion of politically-charged positions should start from the facts.
Peace.

Linville, yes I was referring to the Immigrant FB post because it was stated as fact and the Clinton piece was just opinion as well as Mayor Hyland's quote, which was conspiratorial as well. Yes there are many things our government does that are criminal and is becoming more evident every day with our sitting POTUS. Maybe there is some truth to the mayor's opinion as the financial crisis of 2008 showed and it's interesting that it was written almost 100 years ago. In 1961 President Eisenhower warned Americans about the industrial military complex and IMO has certainly come about.
Bottom line is that I don't care what side of the isle you're on, we need the facts. Snopes, Factcheck and Politifact will call out either side and I've seen some on both sides bash these outlets. That's when you know they're on the fringe. Sure they are not 100% accurate, but it is a good starting point for debate.
This is not personal Linville as I usually don't engage in this type of political social media debate. I quite using FB a longtime ago due to all the garbage and hurt feelings. People have lost friends and families have become estranged as I've witnessed first hand.
Sorry for the long winded post!
MoJim
Well if it has been shown to be wrong then I stand corrected
Which story r u referring to ?
WEll it sounds personal to me now that u 2 mentioned that
So I will take it personal from you
Since you said it this way
Everyone know it costs the country way more for the folk that have not paid anything into the system to now try and game it
Multiple sources is always best I’ve heard of snopes already
I don’t care if you believe what I post or notic it is true
You can check the figures if you care but it costs the country way more and they have it paid into the system but want to mooch off it
Socialism is great as long as it’s someone else’s money
Makes me think of ur logic
You a socialist promoter too
Trolling right backatcha
We may neither one want to go down this road
Do I need any positive from you
No I don’t think so
So you must tell me you are not picking on me
WTH
That must mean you are
you might not have the facts straight either
And facts come from multiple sources not urcherry picked ones
I am not the one who called you out
I never mentioned you by name but you did me twice
