I can't fall asleep and if I manage to do--I don't sleep very long. It's not very enticing to go pay for a clinic to have them confirm--yep you have insomnia and ambien is still your best bet. (It does help me to sleep, but I've become tolerant to it over the years so a 30 day prescription doesn't last for 30 days anymore.)
Clinic may help you, even if you do not have sleep apnea.
But first make sure you are not causing or your habits are not contributing to your lack of sleep.
If you look there are many suggestions such as:
-room temperature
-no caffeine 2-3 hours before sleep
-no electronic devices for 2 hours before sleep
-go to bed at the same time and try to wake at the same time- even if you are still tired
-mindfulness and deep breathing exercises
-etc.
If you have tried these suggestions and still have sleep problems then the clinic may be of some use to get to the root cause.
