That may just be you’re super sensitive to b blockers. Metoprolol is most often given alongside an anti coagulant like xar-elto for those with atrial fibrillation for possible stroke prevention. But metoprolol has higher affinity for receptors in the heart muscle than propranolol and doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier as easily.
I’ve never had an issue with propranolol standalone with regard to very low bpm. In fact even in high doses, my heart rate stays around 65-70.
Everyone’s body is different and it’s best to get a follow up after starting one for that very reason. They are truly great medicines though.
