All depends on your body chemistry and sleep habits. Honestly, the things you do before you go to bed greatly dictate how you will sleep. Phones away from bed, no computer for 30 min before all that I'm sure you have heard, but very effective. Calm room, no clutter, low light. Fan or sound machine and then of course meds at the end. If Zolpidem works for you, then the closest to that if you do not have that would be doxylamine succinate for over the counter. Benzo's seem to be too much for long term use.
Yes I would agree with that Valerian Root works wonders, they have plenty of herbal sleep medications at health food stores, passion flower "Passionflower for anxiety. In general, there is good evidence to suggest that P. incarnata helps relieve anxiety symptoms. Several clinical studies show that passionflower has anxiety-calming (anxiolytic) effects. ... A 2016 clinical trial found that passionflower decreased anxiety and improved memory in rats." (if you have time to read) is another that helps anxiety and is also helps with stress and anxiety, comes in Tincture forms you just drop some in water and sip on it.
Z0pi!cl0ne also helps if you are going down the benzo road.
