Hello again everyone! My last Welcome thread is gone, and I don’t have access to PMs to find out what may have happened. Charon, Icewizard: my apologies if I did something wrong in that first one, or if creating this new one is also wrong.
The rules say I must have a Welcome thread, so here is mine.
I grew up in the South to strict parents, make straight As, all that stuff, then left for the big city. I did not make straight As in college and left.
For nearly 20 years now, I’ve had crippling panic attacks every few weeks on average, some months being worse than others. After a year of trying various stabilizers, I knew what worked for me even though there were addictive properties and was already being looked down upon. Some psychologists and primary care docs seem sympathetic, but others, especially once I moved to the Pacific Northwest, are clearly trying to remove me from my necessary medication entirely.
I found this community many years ago (I forget exactly when the first time I visited), but it saved my life. I desperately needed to read other people’s stories and try to find my own way of handling my mental health (we’re talking almost losing my job here because of my inability to focus and my boss saying I was a “slacker”), and this is where I found that help.
After a lot of paranoia and self-doubt, I decided to finally join and try to give back to a community that has graced me with so much stability and healing.
I’m so happy I found this place, and I feel fortunate to be a member. Thanks to all on here!
