diphen i find quick acting but shorter duration like i'll wake up 4hrs later, prometh i find takes longer to kick in but you will sleep a whole 8 hours and after that its affects can be felt up to 12hrs it also seems to have a slight anxiolytic effect.
Also a Tricyclic antidepressant called amitriptyline is very sedating, but comes with a menu of side effects.
