So sorry about your loss.
When my cat died it was in some ways worse than when my Dad died of COVID (and please don't think I didn't love my Dad). But with my Dad's death I got time off work, counselling, everyone said how sorry they were, etc. With my cat a couple of people said it was sad, and that was it. But my world was shattered.
I don't have kids and I think I transferred a lot of those feelings to my cat. He was rescued very young and seemed to attach to me. I'm not sure he knew he was a cat. But he went from being almost wild to the most unconditionally loving creature. He followed me everywhere, and people commented he was a bit like a dog in nature.
The thing is he lived a good life for the time I had him - I just wish it had been longer. The wonderful thing about animals is they are totally themselves. Unlike people they don't lie.
So I understand the pain of your loss but promise it will get better with time. x
