My dad had the kind you posted. I've used similar ones from Walmart. The ones you twist into your ear...? My dad had some. I just could not bring myself to put that twisted thing into my ear! BLEAH!
Mine are hot pink with yellow, and not a foam like the ones you show. I have used some of the ones you shared, and they definitely work. But the more hard of hearing my parents got, the less they worked!
I even cut two in half and put each of a half with the round top in each ear as far as I could! THAT IS CALLED "DESPERATION"!
I couldn't do this all the time, because I had to have "caregivers ear." But before they were really slowing down, I was able to use the ear plugs AND my industrial fan.
Later, I had to listen because my dad had no hearing in his left ear, because a few years earlier he and my BIL were out really far, where nobody is, knocking cans over, etc? My BIL had a new ..... and it was so loud, that it ruptured my dad's left ear drum.
It never healed, because of his age, and because he didn't care, even though we certainly did!!!!!!!!
My mom later got hearing aids, but like I knew, my dad refused.
The last two years I would have tears in my eyes, because it was me in my bedroom there, which was located (not counting closets) in the hall, right smack in the middle of my father who was in the living room, with the TV as loud as it would go, and my mother on the right in their bedroom sitting up in bed, with the TV she was watching as loud as it would go!
AUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!
I can remember praying many times because it was unbearable! And, most of the time they'd be watching the same thing!
STEREO!
I THOUGHT: "I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE IT THROUGH THIS. DAD CAN'T HEAR IF MOM FALLS, MOM CAN'T HEAR IF DAD FALLS, NONE WOULD HEAR IF SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO BREAK IN...EXCEPT ME, AND I'LL BE INCOHERENT, DROOLING, AND READY FOR A STRAIGHT-JACKET."
Someone trying to break in didn't bother me, because I was fully "prepared". But I was so frustrated, that woe to anyone who did try to break in!!!!!
Nobody ever did. Plus we had big dogs.
My earplugs are corded. I was glad because they are extremely dangerous for children and pets to find. When I wash mine and squirt a bit of cleaner that has Clorox in it, then let them dry, they swell a LOT when mixed with water...or dog slobber or cat saliva.
So, I was terrified the dogs, and my cats would swallow one, because they would absolutely, definitely choke to death.
The cord is just a plastic string pushed into the earplugs, and is long enough for each ear to have a plug. I just push the cord so it's on the back of my neck. It's not too short.
However, even though I have been using these now for years, recently I somehow ended up sleeping with the side of my neck pressed tightly onto the cords. I woke up and noticed my neck was very painful.
I realized it was the cord, and it was embedded into the side of my neck! I had to peel it out!
There were several indentations on my neck from where the cord was deepest, but no broken skin.
Nothing like garroting yourself in sleep!!!!!
Then I noticed a really bad rash from where the cord was pressed into my neck, and then down the side, and a bit down my upper chest!
I believe it was a combination of the cord, and sweat, because I slept deeply that night and in the same position. And it was a warm night.
I used cream for rashes on the area and it soon cleared up.
I don't wear them really deep, unless my sis and BIL are staying, because my BIL snores. So do I! I also pull the cords out now.
When they and the dogs aren't here, I put them in loosely and I can still hear what I need to, but it cuts out the noise I don't need to hear.
I saw these pictures and couldn't believe how far they show you how to put them in!
These are mine. Ignore the ear gunk under them...PUUUUUUKE!!!!!!!
JUST KIDDING! IT IS THE SHADOW OF THE PLUGS! HA! HA! HA! HA!
